Chausson 640

Newbie
We ordered a Chausson 640 in February which the dealer had on pre order. I have been concerned about delivery delays, but apparently Chausson have said that their May builds on Ford will happen. Has anyone experience of a recent delivery or expecting one soon?

Bump - can anyone share their experience of similar?

We have a 630 Titanium Premium on order which was also pre-ordered by the dealer. Originally they said would be delivered mid-April but now put back 3-4 weeks so probably early June at best - while we are away in France in our current MH............
Does anyone out there own a 630 and if so anything to watch out for?????

Yeah - The Wino I am hoping to avoid those! I can’t worry about it now - it’s ordered and the price was (relatively speaking, given current market) excellent. Maybe it’s because it’s a ford! I am really hoping someone has taken delivery recently…

We've owned ford based Chaussons now for almost 10 years. We've got a bit of extra security but there do seem to be less problems with the mechanical side than get reported on here on Fiat's although that could be because more on here own Fiat's.

That’s good to know The Wino - we have hired VW and Ford F62. We’re committed now. The Chausson seems to have all the things we need. 6m for us everything was too cramped and decided a garage was essential. Are you pleased with your Chausson?

Our first was secondhand probably ex rental but cheap it was fine. We bought our current one new in 2014 and never expected to keep it this long but it does everything we want.

Excellent to hear. We were waiting for retirement but the pandemic has pushed us to say - why wait! Hoping for alternate weekends away and 4 full weeks per year. If we decide it’s not for us we will sell. Son is a caravan man but we just don’t want to tow.

If you get a chance go to France. It's motorhome heaven if you like staying off sites like we do. If you like staying on sites all the time fine some do but being free is what really made us like the motorhome. We had a caravan when the kids were young if we were going on sites all the time I'd have a caravan again.

Planning Germany next year - just because it’s familiar to us for our first abroad trip. I will need to gain some confidence before staying off site - is it very easy in France? What do you do to fill up and empty water and the loo?

These are the sorts of places we like on our trip last year. First on in a vineyard second a car park recommended by the woman in the tourist office last one a free Aire in a village centre.

If we replaced our Ford based Chausson , with another I would get all the windows resealed. So worth thinking about and asking around for others experience .

We arn’t changing though, cos they don’t do a 6mtr van with enough storage for us any more .

AXO66 thats a good tip. ours will be 7m. We couldn’t find a 6m that fit what we wanted. Thank you - you like your Chausson though?

We do. Our first and current van . Ford mk8 2.2 diesel pre add blue. Cheap(ish) parts. They are put together a bit like a flat pack, you can see all the joints and screws ( covered) so easy to take apart if needed. Not everyone’s taste though. Decent payload at least 500kgs on ours .All the technical bits , fridge boiler gas stuff are found in other vans . Diesel heater is great ( noisythough) Only down side has been leaky windows , afixed under warranty . We also got our underneath wall, floor seals re sealed and rear mud flaps done as a precaution. If you get one and so minded talk to Rivers motorhomes, Stratford on Avon or Cannok respray who are both registered with Chausson for warranty work but are not dealers . They know their stuff and happy to chat over any issues . Done 26k over 6 years Uk and Europe .
Also a friendly Facebook Chausson owners Group.

Great thank you - we have ordered from Lowdhams Nottingham but live in the North East. We will have a look at that when we get it.

If I was a motor dealer ( which I’m not but our company supplies a service to them) I would be very nervous about forecasting probable delivery dates right now. In addition to the component chip supply issue that most of us know about, there is another looming issue regarding products manufactured in Ukraine. These include wiring looms and automotive glass, but there may be other items I’m unaware of. Last week a Ford Transit dealer told me they were unable to accept new orders for Transits ATM, the wait for these vehicles is beyond a year. Furthermore a buddy of mine ordered a VW van last September and still hasn’t been given a build date.

We bought at Lowdhams in Nottingham too. The motorhome was pretty good. Lowdhams seemed shall we say disinterested after the payment cleared! We had a couple of rubber bungs drop out of the hob after a couple of months they just sent us to parts to buy some new ones!

Yes - I’ve heard that about them. Though to be fair I don’t think aftersales anywhere is great!

What got me was the cost of the hab services I wouldn't have minded so much if I felt I was being treated like royalty

Can't remember not used them for the past 4 years but it was roughly half as much again to twice as much as anywhere else. I did use Cannock resprays a few times they're a Chausson repair agent and good to deal with but we've moved up north now.

We went and looked there first but the exact same van was £7k more, given the way they were all going up everywhere Lowdhams price was good. But if Tyne Valley are good on warranty stuff, I will definitely bear that in mind. I’m hoping our van has no problems!
