Hi, I'm new to this forum and have joined because we are having a problem with a warranty claim for damp in boot area.
Already had a claim for damp in rear boot door (warranty work done May 19).
Habtn check done Feb 20 found damp again in boot area.
Chausson refuse claim as no habit chk done May 19(anniversary of purchase)when vehcle in for warranty work.
Anyone else having damp problems with Chausson in boot area.
Mhome is May 2017 vehicle

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I can't help with the problem but surely the warranty for the original repair would be one year. (y)

Thanks for reply Mike. I'm speaking with the After Sales Manager at the dealership on Tuesday when he returns from a holiday. You are right there must be some kind of warranty for the work done. It was subcontracted by Dealership to a repair shop and I don't have any paperwork as it was done under warranty. I tried to see a copy of the paperwork, but Dealership said that as it was warranty work then any paperwork was between subcontractor, Dealership and Chausson.
I shall press this point on Tuesday

We had a Autotrail that had some warranty work and we never got any paperwork for that either.

But we traded it in at another maker/dealer about 8/9 months later for a IH who found it still wet in the area.

They recovered the costs of the re-repair from the 1st dealer. (y)

Welcome to the forum and I hope your meeting with them Tuesday goes well.

Just to advise legal position, any work done under warranty within a warranty period will only be guaranteed AS A MAXIMUM until the end of the original warranty period

For example, if you had a new engine fitted by FIAT under warranty ,one week before the 2yr warranty expired, then that new engine would only be warranted for 1 week

I'm confused about your hab checks are you saying they refused the claim because the hab check was done early in Feb rather than May?

VW used to warranty any repair work for 12 months.

Fiat state:

How does the warranty on spare parts, accessories and repair work?
A paid intervention, or an accessory installed at a Fiat Dealership, ensure a 24-month warranty, with no mileage restrictions (excluding parts subject to wear and tear).
The warranty includes:
  • replace or repair of the spare part or accessory from the prior intervention, subject to presenting the respective tax document
  • cost of labour.

Sorry LennyHB about delay in replying I didn't realise I had to pay a subscription, bit dim of me there.

Warranty claim was refused because we missed the habitation check in May 2019 when mhome in for warranty work from May 2018 was being done.

We then had a habitation check done in Feb 2020. Chausson say the 7 year warranty is now invalid because we missed May 2019 habitation check. Don't know why we missed it but we can't go back in time.

My only hope is to try to show that this is a common fault on Chausson mhomes

Sorry Lenny HB, that's my fault. I posted the thread twice by mistake and people are replying to one or the other. J

I had a faulty locker door on a 08 Allegro 67 which let in water.

Have you a tow bar fitted? I have just heard that towing certain Chaussons can cause a leak in the garage.

Hi Donnkim
Thanks for suggestion, but no we don't have a towbar

Remember that any warranty is in addition to your statutory rights. Your contract is with the supplying dealer. You may well have a claim against them. A friend found himself in exactly the same situation as you, and although the manufacturer refused the claim, he successfully claimed against the dealer.

Was your habitation due in May during the lockdown and therefore not done? I've not had mine done this year because all the dealers were closed from March to July. I would be a bit pissed at chausson if they didn't honour the warranty because of covid 19

It was the 2019 check he missed.
