Just spent a night on the Aire de CC here, my advice don't bother.

After following the 2k + detour around the village on a dirt track to the aire as there is an issue with the bridge from the village that's looks a permanent or at least long term one stopping Motorhomes using it we found the aire.

Nice well kept tranquil setting (lmao about what follows). We paid €5.5 to the nice girl from the Toursist Office who came round early evening and settled down for a nice evening in the warm sunshine (that's us not her, though she would have been welcome).

Later on about 10 ish some locals appeared at the Recreation Ground Clubhouse, they are still here at 7.30. A night of loud music, shouting (no doubt to hear each other over the music) and screaming both at the clubhouse and occasionally on the aire has made for a sleepless night, even a French van buggered off at 7 this morning in disgust and possibly looking for somewhere to get some rest.

In my opinion if any commune allows this nights events from such loud and inconsiderate people to carry on near an aire they don't deserve support so give the place a wide berth, especially with the tyre damaging, stone chip flying, dirt and dust everywhere (only cleaned the van Friday, inside and out) dirt track of an access road to contend with.

Oh the nice girl from the toursist office gave us an A4 feedback form, it's not going to be big enough!

We are off this morning to a lclub site nearby, so looking forward to getting there.

What a shame.
We used Chateau Larcher years ago, 3€ all in, was very tranquil with a nice walk around the lake, ville nothing to shout about but some interesting ruins from the Chateau.
Won't bother again.
We had a similar experience at another Aire-loud music, yobs being sick everywhere and shouting & screaming-so we moved down the road at 3 am to a lay By!

This is part of the new French plan to make all our visitors feel at home.

That's France for you, happened to me in a sleepy French Village with a very small population, banging music and voices, cars girls vomiting and peeing behind our van. Yes it was a Saturday too. Same in Spain, expect noise on the weekend wherever you are. :)

We were there a few weeks ago. The detour was painful, but, as you say, the setting idyllic. We too were concerned by the youths congregating by the sports hall and yes, they were a little loud, and stayed until late.
However, they weren't that loud, and let's face it, it's THEIR town, their recreation facility. We went past them to go to visit the town and ruins, and they were (as are the majority of French youths) polite and pleasant.
We enjoyed the stay. The "disturbance" faded before we retired.
More upsetting was the French van that arrived just after the fees were collected, and departed very early the next morning. Also the (again French) van that arrived, emptied and filled then departed without making a contribution as requested on the site notice.

I'm afraid the French see it as their right to use the Aires & not pay anything which is why more & more Aires have barriers and pay machines fitted.
The number of French vans we have seen arrive & leave after/before the man comes round to collect money is amazing and of course the Marie know that and eventually they decide to stop it happening!

nowhere near long enough
We stayed there a couple of years back and hardly saw a soul, if you do intend going and you are using an aires book that is a couple or three years old be warned the co-ordinates are wrong.

"That's the reason more aires have barriers and pay machines?"
Are you 100% sure that's the reason?

Another reason is that they have a different idea on travelling... They travel early morning , late evening when the traffic is lightest and enjoy the best of the day parked up by a lake, town etc.. Brits seem to travel during the day to their next destination to get to the 'aire' early to get a good spot... We live on a departmental road and French vans pass well into the evening even in winter, on occasion on an aire I've asked why and that's what they said...

I would have thought from the description it sounds like parking overnight in some places in the UK
