Hi anyone, iv just picked my hymer up and was wondering about the electroblock ebl101, the van is fitted with 4x bosch L5 013 for liesure batteries
Question 1 will the ebl 101 charge all four and how long
2 is it best to split the batteries into 2x with a battery switch, bat1 bat2 or both
3 just run 1x or 2x batterie
4 will it harm the battery if on gel switch
5 is it ok to leave it charging all the time
Thanks norm

All four batteries will be link as one and the charger will charge all four.... Maybe slower and longer to fully charge
If the electroblock has a lead acid function then use that. I'd be surprised if it doesn't.
It should be OK to leave on charge but if possible put on charge for a day every two weeks or so.

When I bought my Burstner I was totally unfamiliar with the Electroblock system.
Advise from a few fellow funsters and from websites advised not to overload the charging system to avoid damage. My EBL 220 is rated at 18amps, some earlier ones are slightly lower.
Hopefully others with more info will be along soon. 👍

I have the ebl101 with 2 lead acid batteries ( 90Ah X2). The EBL has a max charge of 18A so it may take a while to fully charge if they are all discharged but one advantage of having them all connected together in parallel is that it will take quite a bit to discharge them to 50%.They shouldn't be discharged below this for maximum life.

The EBL101 has an inbuilt 18A charger. Some people say it's not very happy running at full output for a long time, which it would do to charge 4 leisure batteries. It is a smart 3-stage charger, so it won't overcharge if left connected indefinitely. (The symbol IUoU means 3-stage charger).

There is a socket for a second charger. It's the 2-way socket labelled 'Zusatz Ladegerat'. Schaudt do a suitable mains charger, the LAS 1218-2, which is also 18A. This is very similar to the internal EBL charger.

Any charger of your choice can be fed through that 2-way socket - suitable plugs (MNL) are available from auto electrics suppliers. You have to fit a fuse in the 'Zusatz Ladegerat' fuse slot, 20A. The socket is only good for 18A - any higher and you will have to go direct to the batteries.

The control panel battery amps and charge percentage is only valid if all the charging goes through the EBL. So when fitting extra charging, people often fit a separate battery monitor and ignore the control panel readings.

On the gel setting the 'absorption' charging stage is extended by a timed amount, a couple of hours at least. Standard lead-acids don't need that, it won't do them any good.

Schaudt recommended fitting the axillary charger if there is more than one battery fitted. Providing you don't constantly discharge your batteries to a low level it should be OK, I've had two Hymers with two batteries and the current one with 3 Gels without a problem but over 90% of my charging is done by solar.

EBL 101 the absorption time for standard wet cells is 1 hour, and 8 hours for Gel, later versions it is 16 hours for Gel.
Ones with an AGM setting it is 4 hours for AGM & 16 hours for Gel.
