Charging ebikes when off grid.

Few years now
We will be doing some off grid camping next month around Spain and I am looking at options to recharge our electric bikes Li-ion batteries (245wh 36V 6.8Ah). I dont think my solar , battery & invertor (300w) would be up to the job, but found 12v chargers which can be run from a cig socket which possibly could be plugged in whilst driving between locations.

Plan B will be to book on site every few days.

I use one of these (or something very similar)... and it works well, it does get hot though, so I like to keep an eye on it

No inverter, 100w solar, 100ah lead acid leisure battery... our bike batteries are 36v 17ah.

Just checked, it is the same as in your link.

If an inverter make sure it is pure sine wave. Sensitive electronics in lithium chargers don't like lesser stuff. 300W would be plenty.

Bosch stopped making their 12v cigarette socket type charger. Suspect average wiring in vehicles couldn't handle the long period of load. The standard mains charger on their 500 battery pack can take 6+ hours for a full charge.

Well we have 400 watt Bosch batteries 2½ hours to charge from flat.
 
We have a 1000 watt inverter with 238ah of gel batteries with 300 Watts of solar.
Although I can charge both batteries from flat it does tend to hammer batteries so tend to just top them up.

My inverter isnt pure sinewave.

And you're aware of being able to recharge your Bosch batteries courtesy of local spots free of charge* in certain parts of Europe

Different charger models, compact is only a 2Amp (36V) charge rate, standard and fast - 6A?. Obviously affects how long to recharge, as does the various battery capacities.

Our charges are rated at 1.5 amps but that is the mains rating.
 
We have two x 85amp gel batteries, two x 100w flexible solar panels and a mppt solar regulator. 🙂
A 600w Stirling PSW inverter, we charge both batteries if we are driving, stationary we only charge one at a time, 🤔 but our batteries are 36v 11.0ah 400wh. 😎 Bob.
 
I am looking at options to recharge our electric bikes Li-ion batteries (245wh 36V 6.8Ah).
Make sure you know the difference between watt-hours (Wh), which is energy capacity, and watts, which is how fast the energy is used/provided. A 245Wh battery charging from empty to full in 2 hours would need a 245/2 = 123watt charger. For 3 hours it would be 245/3 = 82W. Plus 10% or so for losses.

It's quite possible that a 300W inverter would be fine for one bike, probably OK for two bikes. As Kannon Fodda says, best to get a pure sine wave inverter for electronic gizmos.

A 200Ah carbon battery has an energy capacity of 200 x 12 = 2400Wh, so should be easily capable of filling up two 245Wh batteries.

In terms of solar, a 100W panel will give you 30Ah (30 x 12 = 360Wh) typically, and over 40Ah (480Wh) on a good day. Looks like you have enough solar/batteries to fill the leisure battery during the day while you're out, and charge the bikes overnight when you get back.
