Heading to Chanonry point tomorrow to see if we can spot any wildlife and wondered if anyone could recommend a nice wildcamping spot or CL close by.

CCC Rosemarkie is right on the beach: you can see the dolphins swimming from your pitch or walk to the Point along the sand.

Not sure if it is open at this time of year - Gordon

Rosemarkie c&cc site, right next to the golf course, both very close by. You have your clubs with you !!! (y) :)

Talk nicely to the golf club sec. you can only ask, plenty of room this time of year.

Looking on google I can't see how they could stop you using their site, or wild camp on the road just past the golf course

You could probably stop on Marine Terrace, Rosemarkie just past Crofters Bistro or if you are happy to travel 7-8 miles further on the Cromarty has loads of space by the water edge.

I note the Bistro has changed hands recently but was great when we were there in May when it was run by the son of Penelope Keith and she was eating on the next table to us.

Thanks for the replies, will have a drive out tomorrow after a day in Inverness. Unfortunately I don't have my clubs and with this weather they wouldn't be coming out :)

We wildcamped close to Fort George, which is directly across the firth. Actually on their overflow car park although we should have been on some rough ground about 200 yards short of there.

If you arrived late enough try just parking on the point itself. Lots of space and if the police want you to move tell them the campsite is closed and you have nowhere to go.

Think you can park up on the shore part of the Rosemarkie site when it is shut down for the winter. Seem to remember someone we were in another club with who stays locally said he parks up there sometimes in the winter.

Just a thought, but do the dolphins "perform" at this time of year? I thought they were only at their best when the salmon were running - but I wonder when that is? If it matters of course.

Well went today didn't spot any dolphins so possibly wrong time of year, the warden was still on the campsite as they where getting work done on the ground. I asked if I could stay the night and got a very firm no, tried the car park at the end and it said no overnight parking. I know some would just stay but the last thing I want is to annoy anyone who lives close by, there was another campsite just round the corner with stunning views with no fence or barrier round it so thought of staying there but found somewhere else out the way.
Will be heading to Nairn tomorrow and will possibly stay or head on to Elgin so if any nice spots please feel free to pass them on.

Forgive me for asking but did you go at the right time of day? It needs to be on the rising tide.

Nairn harbour is good stayed a few time get boy racers sometime on a Fri / sat but never had any problems
Elgin unfortunately not at home or you could park up on the driveway
There is the riverside campsite as you come into Elgin from Inverness (just across the road from hotel) think its still open and 10min walk into town
Believe you can overnight in the lossie green carpark in centre of town but never had the need to try it
Or head to Lossiemouth and you can park up at the west beach beside the golf club or britstop at the beach bar with great views over the firth
