Channel Tunnel for large 'vans? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

Wondered if anyone has any experience with the Channel Tunnel for large motorhomes? When we took our caravan, we paid normal a slightly above normal "car" price and got loaded onto the high carriage (where all the coaches go).

However, looking at the booking there is no option for "motorhome" - the closest is a camper van. Also reading the prose under "vans" it states that vans with a GTW > 4,500kg must go in freight, which is horribly expensive.

Similarly, I've heard stories, on this forum and others, about being loaded onto the coach carriage but I am unsure how to do that - do you phone them up? Will they try and push you to freight?

Our motorhome is 8.5m and >5,000kg...

Our M/H is 8.5m 6000kg.
We always get a really good deal on DFDS Dover to Calais/Dunkirk route. Around £ 100 ( 125€) return pre booked in advance.

Just book as camper van, no problem you will be with the coaches weight and length no bother , all the same height

we booked ok last year 8m 5000kg MH we went in with the cars cost about £180 round trip and £30 for the dog. It was great, we would definatly recommend it. A bit more expensive than the ferry but we have a dog.
It was very stress free and quick. By the time we had eaten a sandwich and a drink, we had arrived in France.

You have to book it as a camper van - means the same thing to Eurotunnel. Height is immaterial (unless you're Jeremy Clarkson - remember that one?) as is length. You'll be loaded in the high carriages with the coaches etc. automatically. Forget the "vans" category; you don't want to go there.
And if you do your shopping at Tesco you can go for free!

9.5 m long van sometimes with trailer /car book as a camper van. Frequent traveller £43 per crossing van only

If you never been its a bit confusing first time finding your way about the complex but just chill out and you will be fine. No one bothers where you park really unless its really busy. If you go late at nigh ot early morning just go on the car park for cars and pull across spaces.
