Channel tunnel closed due to fire..

PS: sorry if this has already been posted. I haven't been able to get onto the BBC news site till now as it was down for me.

I only just realised it happened at 11am this morning.

Taken from the BBC News website.

- Channel Tunnel closed "until further notice" after a fire on a lorry at French end

- Eurostar suspends all its services after smoke was detected in the tunnel

- It says 26 trains have been cancelled since 11:00 GMT

- All trains are returning to their original stations

- Rail passengers are advised to expect "significant delays"

- There have been no reported injuries, Kent Police say

Another good reason to keep MyFerryLink in operation.

FOR LATEST UPDATE, SEE MY ORIGINAL POST FURTHER DOWN....

I understand it must be very frustrating if you are due to travel, but I would rather them cancel and be safe than be gung ho and send everyone through.
It makes me smile when you read comments like this ...
"John Hope was travelling to Paris with his girlfriend when their train was turned back.
"We were stuck outside the Channel Tunnel for about one hour with no information at all other than smoke had been detected and then we were told we would have to turn back to London," he said.
"This was meant to be a birthday treat for my girlfriend but it has turned into a pretty poor experience all round."

Better than going in the tunnel and being burnt / asphyxiated by the smoke, I would have thought....

At least nobody was hurt. It seems Eurotunnel's evacuation proceedure works.
You all do listen to the safety briefing don't you?

Imagine the chaos if this had happened at February half term!

An absolute pain for anyone on there, or waiting to board, but quite reassuring that they've dealt with it efficiently and no-one was hurt.

they are saying vehicle side might be operational from this evening as opening one tunnel. no passenger train service though..these travellers are stuck!
