Heading to Spain in 3 weeks. Done the usual routes so often and stayed overnight at all the usual places. I know its a long way around but I thought i'd like to spend sometime in the attractive cities of eastern France. Also fancy a slow ramble to Spain to give it time to warm up. Wondering if the above cities would be worth a visit as there seem to be aires and sites close to the cities. Any advice?

Thats the most bizarre route ever, would make more sense to go to Italy

If you venturing over to the Alsace then the classic and touristy towns of Riquewihr, Eguisheim and Ribeauville are all worth stopping at. There’s decent sites and aires in that area and it is a very nice part of the world, the French would even say they invented pizza there🍕, but a Flammkuchen ain’t no Margherita. Colmar is a very nice town and i would think the largest one in that region. Also worth looking at the motor museum in Mulhouse.

Thanks but its not really a route , more of a trip. Also done Italy so many times in the past. Just want to see some nice towns and cities that i've not visited .

The national automobile musem at Mulhouse is well worth a visit especially if you like Bugatti's, I don't reckon it's a good as it was before they modernised but still well worth it.

Mulhouse is not a great town to visit but the Schlumpf colldction is well worth seeing although sadly all behind ropes. Pont a Mousson is a nice stop by the river. Lac du Der if you're into cycling. Lots of lovely castles

Have you been through the mosel valley , I appreciate its off your route but we toured the mosel then down the Rhine and down to Mullhouse area and into Eastern France, lots of lovely towns and places to visit. Belfort was one of the best places. Then meandered down the east side across the South of France and entered Spain from the Perpignon side .

A very rare good bus service in Colmar

Cascades Du herrrison are most worthy of a trip

Park here for free overnight.
Park at the Fromagerie just down the road (for free) and do the cascades from there
