I'm an oldbie MH number 10
Hi all, can anyone answer a question that I cant appear to get understand on the DVLA website.
I have a private plate on my van. My van is for sale and I therefore obviously do not want to sell my plate. If I sell the van I understand that I would then have to transfer the plate off at what appears a cost of £80, but seeing there is a delay between sale and picking up a new van of a few weeks do I have to then pay another £80 to put it on? this makes the transfer £160. Does this sound right or is there a way I can only pay once.

regards
Paul

For a few week reckon they'll hold your number on retention.

Hi Paul you have to put your private reg on to a retention certificate cost £125 and that includes transfer to new vehicle
Geo
unless you can get hold of new van paperwork and swap straight from old to new
Geo
Sorry i think its £105 made up of transfer fee £80 and retension fee £25

You pay the transfer fee and then you can leave the number on retention for up to a year before you need to pay an additional fee. Make sure you have the number off before you sell otherwise you will need to wait until you get the log book back before the new owner can drive away.

Correct, you can then keep it on retention by renewing every year until you want to reuse it.

Suggest you do it now so you get the new number and V5 before you sell it

No what ever happens I will be there Saturday even if im in a tent:BigGrin: after all I heard spirits were there.
I awaited a chap to turn up from Liverpool but as per normal, he could not make it, but rang and has rearanged. Sounds really interested but dont they always.
Another chap from Stoke, wants to come around when his wife finishes work.

I have loads of watchers which is good. I have found a garage prepared to px for what I want at not to less than I am asking, but of course it only means he has lots of profit in his van.
so its a watch this space. keep waiting and watching.
