Good afternoon,
looking for some advice about changing my sargent PX300 battery charger for a Victron IP22 charger. Is it a simple swap or complex. I have fitted new solar with Victron BMV 712 battery monitor, a Victron MPPT 30/100 solar controller and a Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30 DC to DC charger And wanted to finish the job with the IP22 Charger as the one fitted is not the best also good old Autotrail stick it in the box behind the EC500 unit with no ventilation, really cleaver as it says on the charger should be fitted in a ventilated area as it gets hot. Typical Autotrai.
any advice on fitting would be greatly appreciated or any good Motorhome electricians in the Suffolk Cambridgeshire area that could fit one
thanks
Graham

The crux of the question relates to the 12v 'mains on' trigger feed needed to send back to the EC500.

Sargents PX-300 PSU has a 12v output which is used to tell the EC500 that the mains is connected so the system knows that mains is available.

This could easily be solved by plugging the IP22 230v plug into a 2 gang extension socket.
Then using DC 12V power adapter (transformer brick plug) plugged in next to the IP22.
That way when the mains is on, charging the battery a 12v mains on' trigger feed is available.

I believe the Victron IP22 has a inbuilt cooling fan so it would need mounting carefully so as not to hear it.

Thanks for the information, I was hoping it would just be a matter of swapping wire. Typical Sargent bits made difficult to use alternative products. Think I might look for a good auto electrician
, if I can find one near me. Thanks again

I would say 3 steps needed.
1. connect IP22 to 240V socket
2. connect Output from IP22 to battery. In your case you could connect to battery or piggyback onto B2B or MPPT battery cable clamps
3. Turn off "charger" switch on Sargent unit.

I don't see any reason to have to mess around with the Sargent units charger as you can just turn it off.

Sorry for bringing a old thread back up but did anyone manage to figure this out ? I have the same set up which an auto electrician came and disconnected the px300 and wired the Victron in its place so when on ehu now it’s the Victron charger working not the px300 the only issue as read above is this feed that’s tell the mcu it’s on shore power
But I’m told this is only so you can’t start the van on hook up or the electric icon on your control panel but no issues will occurs this sparky told me ? It’s been 6 weeks now all runs perfect as should with a set up of 240w solar to a Victron mppt 75/100 with a bmv-712 and battery protect also a Victron b2b
my ip22 is the 30amp no issues at all
Any information if this is safe would be helpful lol or do I listen to the sparky that did it
He even said double up the wiring leave both the px300 and ip22 running together with x2 115ah banner batteries it won’t hurt because the higher amp being the Victron will take over keeping it safely set up with the battery protect and bmv ? so …..

If you have two chargers connected you will get both of the outputs unless the Sargent has something that restricts it. I bypassed my EBL and fitted two Victron IP22 30a chargers, if I plug one in I got 30am, plug two in I get 60a 👍

That’s correct but more research today I have found out the 25amp px300 is fitted for a reason it’s 25amp so upgrading higher the onboard electric like the nord or Sargent can’t handle higher it been the back fuse panels and sockets
Mine seems ok upto yet but I will keep checking behind the fuse board for melting signs

They are mains chargers, the 25a fuse will be for 12V? Not sure what you mean
