Motorhoming since 2015......
On our last trip a few days ago, a ‘change engine oil’ message appeared on the dash display. I spoke to the local Peugeot service people, and they said that, even though the ‘van had only done 2,800 miles, it was ‘normal for a motorhome‘ as the oil degrades quicker making shorter journeys with lots of manoeuvring. I’d not heard this before, but I did think that having the ‘van stationary for a few months during lockdown-one (!?!) would not help...... :(
Any thoughts on what I’ve been told?

I guess water entering the system...condensation.. is the problem. For the cost I’d do it.Having said that they are always looking for more ways to milk us. Change oil, brake fluids, coolant etc

So by their reckon if you did 3000 miles a week you'd need an oil change every 6 years.
The oil service light works on mileage AND a time basis.
Personally, at 2800 miles I'd leave it.

Not uncommon to hear with lack of use, short journeys, and a constant throttle position the oil may well degrade best to change it every spring regardless of mileage

When was it last changed? It is possible it has come on because the system wasn't reset the last time the oil was changed so it now thinks it is overdue.

A garage should be able to clear the message if they have the right kit. Otherwise, have a look on YouTube for various tricks involving pumping the brake pedal etc.

Peugeot service people are talking out of their backsides, it's a fault that has been reported many times before.
You can reset the the oil message.

Interesting......!

The ‘van was new last year (‘19’ plate), so it will be the ‘original’ oil....... I shall investigate further, methinks! (y)

Please outline the brake pedal thing

I may be wrong but I think the OP's van had only done 2,800 miles from new.

Having just done 3,000 hard miles fully loaded through 5 European countries sine I last change the oil. Won’t be long before I’m changing it again.

Shell Diesel Semi synth

1/2 price from Auchan Annecy at €12.50 for5 litres

I took our 2019 Fiat into the dealer yesterday. The Check Oil Level light has been on for some time despite having the correct oil level.
Apparently, if you start the engine before tthe lights on the dash have cycled and gone out it can trigger a warning light. Best to let all the start up sequences go through their stuff.

The oil I believe will at present be at it's most contaminated with engine dwarf get it swopped
What’s an ‘engine dwarf’.........? o_O o_O ;)

Just bought some oil and a filter for the garage to change next Thursday when having MOT, last bought oil and filter 2017 according to partsmith. Only done 2000 miles since coming back from Spain in June 2017, normally do at least 5K a year.

Engine Swarf ?...
maybe years ago. Modern Engine build tolerances do not permit engine Swarf now.
Fully synthetic oil does not degrade like mineral oil used too.
I would not change the oil at this point in time. Minimum of 6000 miles or 36mnths
