Very interesting. It shows that both central and local government are only able to act within the powers they have.

It appears that Transport Scotland have taken the most cost effective approach but it could well have been different if they had the resources to make the necessary orders in the short term. I would expect that both Transport Scotland and local councils will be keeping an eye out for any adverse effects of people using lay-bys for camping and will introduce orders for specific places as need be.

We where up in Aberdeen recently, friends who live there say you can wild camp anywhere in Scotland which they do on a regular basis. Pete
