In a word yes, you need to prove ownership (V5) insurance (certificate) and driving licence. Foreign police don't have access to the DVLA database, so you MUST have the paperwork. Is the certificate of insurance still required as nearly all my policies are emailed to me? So I don't have an original and according to the internet a copy is not acceptable.
