I was surprised on a motorway services the other day (forget where)when I saw a shop on the edge of the car park made out of a shipping container that sold nothing but CB's, he sold two in the 5 minutes I was nosing around.

The last time I used a CB it was full of kids and foul language. I had an illegal amp on a set years ago when I used to run survival courses in Wales. The ranges we could get were great. I thought CB was gone, I presumed that Gordon had sold the frequencies to Orange or someone. I didn't know it was still around. Do any of you guys use CB

Yes

When I was International driving (HGV) until about 5 years ago, most of the International Truckers were using them (including me)
I wouldn't bother in the UK unless I was traveling in a convoy on a regular basis, (say motorhoming with mates with a motorhome)
Apparently it is legal to use a hand held CB (strange) but beware!!!:ROFLMAO:

A 40ch UK/EU Midland came with the RV and I bought a Midland hand held to keep in contact when out and about, could also useful if traveling with others who have one. :thumb:

There was a guy on the MHF a few months ago trying to reinstate the use of CB's and set up a commonly used frequency (if thats the right terminology) for Rv's M/Hs

He was a frequent poster on there I think his username was Snelly

Not sure if it got off the ground or not

Never appealed to me but I know our trucks had them in back in the 70s but the air was usually filled with bad language and rubbish. Shame because a usefull bit of kit used properly.

yes, it is the idiots that spoil it in the UK particulary around the big Cities, but out in the sticks it is quite ok.
I have in the past used it for directions and luckily, I have never been given a bad steer:thumb:
It has it's uses although the range on the legal frequency is quite small (probable 5 mile max on a good day, but more like about 2 mile for normal use !)

I was the ' Roadfox '. Im picking the motorhome up tommorow, and i'm putting in a basic Midland cb unit with a mirror clamp for the areial or the ' whip ' as its know.
All right to use to check on the roads ahead and speaking to the locals where you are heading.

Got a rig to fit in our van sometime. Snelly was encouraging motorhomers to use channel 3 for making contact.

In the 80s i was known as the Firefox! (i liked that film)
I used a Stalker 9FDX with all the trimmings and a set of 200 watt Zetagi boots connected to a Sigma 4 (with the crows nest)
I did once manage to talk to a guy in Rio de Janero and a bloke in Kentucky!
Still got one now and use it every time i am on the motorway!
Its still good for finding out where the Bear traps are and any traffic problems!
Heres one for the old boys!
Does anyone remember the Amstrad 901?
I'll give you a clue! "BEEP":ROFLMAO:
