@5yrs
I've been playing with the 'Cb Talk' app.
It's a digital version of ye olde school CB Radio.

Wondering if any others here use it? If so might it be worth asking midland for a GB motorhomers group?

In the N&B I've refitted the Midland 48 analogue CB with a new aerial and then added a 'dual mike' so it works with both the old and new school options.

Have to say I'm mightily impressed with the concept and execution.

Even if a dedicated group for funsters etc isn't available most groups are empty and so it'd be ready to adopt one.

Just a thought.

Yer gotta love it when people reply without having a f"*king clue what the thread is about.

Yes, analogue CB is almost kaput (althoug wife and I have it between vehicles when we go away with 2 vehicles).
This isn't about analogue CB Radio

"Mercy sakes, we got our selves a convoy". 10-4 and out, Rubber Duck. (CW McColl?)

That brings back a few smiles. Last time I used one, was as part of a group of Motorhomes, travelling to Spain in January 2003. There where a whole bunch of "newbies" and those with C-B`s where pretty much acting as "shepherds". I`ll lay good money it is languishing somewhere among all the crap threatening to bring the roof down in my garage. We made some good friends on that trip.

PMR446 walkie talkies are good too 👍

Also we've got Zello app on our phones which is brilliant 👌

Not the best response we have ever seen on the Forum

Have you read the rules for the Forum?

Start with Rule 1.

Interested in the dual mic... what does it actually do ???
Been involved with chicken box's since about '77, still have one in the motorhome and still have one in the shack ( though it looks a little incongruous sitting beside all my other radio gear :-) )
I have a dual band radio in the motorhome ( AM, FM, FCC and UK frequencies ) and use a quick release standard 3/8 thread mount and a Z27 base loaded antenna

I used to love a game of fox and hounds on the cb

I actually met my first longterm partner on the cb ...i was thunder she was icelady lol

Met her for an eyeball and it was love at first sight ...

Met a few good mates on it too some who are still my best buddies today .

I had an old york rig with a sirio 2000 6ft twig that its a miracle it never took someones eye out .... coupled with an echo mike and a pa horn i used to have some laugh with it

Good old days

Jaws,

The dual Mike connects via Bluetooth to your phone. Obviously with the app open.

The all has all manner of 'groups' + channels.
The app allows you 30km radius from your phone for channels, so similar to an analogue in range. The group's however are worldwide.

I've been playing with it.
On Saturday for work purposes a colleague and I both stayed on channel 19 and fired questions back and forth as we needed to.

Friday while driving home from work explored thee groups and unexpectedly had a right laugh in the 'truckers' group with some drivers from Wincanton.

Earlier took the motorhome for a run just to 'keep the wheels moving' etc and ended up chatting randomly for @25-30mimutes within a group.

Just struck me that within a cab it's a lot more social. Not just one person looking at a phone. Plus of course CB microphone use is legal.

I imagined in summer what a channel full of funsters mighty be like? Or indeed pick any hobby or pastime.

The dual Mike however if of the wired variety (Bluetooth avail) also allows function of old school CB.

The dual Mike unlocks another 40channels and that 30km range becomes 100km (on the app)

The Wincanton bunch said they often all spend the day on a group having banter back and forth.

The group's work anywhere in the world.

I showed my 5yr old how it works and she ended up exchanging hello with someone in Texas. Thee app is over 18's - it was a quick one-off.

App also has a radar function which can link to a map which is cool.

It might die slowly, but strikes me not many people know about it.

And, it's free

I remember those days with fond memories.
Going from "Naughty 40" on AM, before FM became legal, then modding an FM rig with a chip to take the, I think, European cept? standard, so had 80 channels, I think.
Eventually took my Novice Ham licence, but done nothing with it since.......
But, am thinking of starting again.
Used to love a bit of illegal sidebanding 😊

That is interesting. 😊

<Broken link removed>
Not sure if this would work, but wondering if a separate CB/Ham or other comms type forum could be added to the existing forum list specifically for these areas of interest.
Or is there already one?

Thanks for that.. Very very interesting. and the activity as described is reminiscent of the early CB days..

CB still used by tippers, plant drivers , sugar beet trucks. Handy to know if there is someone already loading or coming up a single track road before you enter yourself.

Surprised it works round your way, what with all them hills 😉

Sounds like fun but the mic seems a bit pricey....

As for setting up a group, I would just do it !!!

Will this only work with midland radios or any radio
I can say it does NOT work with a Thunderpole T3000.
It does with a midland 48 (6pin).

On YouTube there are people using them with non Midland

Yes but you may well have to fit a or rewire the plug.
Midland always used to use a really common connection pattern.. same as Cobra, Major and a few others but no idea what layout the '48' uses

The Thunderpole plug is numbered the same as Midland. So that confused the hell outta me.....as it doesn't work.....

Am I looking at this wrong?
