During really heavy rain a week or so back we found the access door for the toilet was leaking in water. Between storm I dried off the area outside and sealed it with duct tape, that did the job so I knew what area to concentrate on.

The access door is a Thetford door 3 so I ordered a new seal and yesterday set about sorting it out. I removed the complete door and frame and cleaned off all the old sealant then revealed and refitted in case it was coming from the frame to the van. The new seal has a small lip that looks like it locates in the door but I cannot see how to get this in/out. I don’t want to tear the old one out yet until I know how the new one goes in.

I have been searching the net but not found anything meaningful so far, plenty for fitting the complete door but nothing about changing the seal. Has anyone done this, can you say how it should be fitted or point me in the right direction to find out please?

The left hand edge in the pic is the bit that locates in the frame somehow 0BA97FE0-FFDC-46EC-926C-FA7CC4DF13F0.jpeg

This has just happened to me this weekend in Skipton, noticed that the old seal doesn't push against door when you close it, door just closes very easy, once new seal is fitted does the seal push against the door just before closing?

Yes the seal should touch the door and a little pressure will be needed to close the door.

If you get some thin soft hose you can feed it into the hole in the seal padding it out and in effect making it fatter so it touches your door 👍

I didn’t end up fitting the new seal, still have it in a cupboard ready for when I need it. I removed the original seal and it all looked good so I cleaned off the old sealant and the seal itself then refitted with fresh sealant. Been back on a while now and no more leaks from it for me 👍

Thanks for that, had a closer look at mine yesterday and there is no sealant on the door, the seal looks like it just slides on and just sits in a groove on the door, no issues with the seal only thing is it seemed to slide back on a bit too freely for me.

Could lack of any sealant be the problem or does the seal look aged?

Seal looks ok, but as I have said in previous post it doesn't feel like its pressing against the inner as I close the door, door closes a bit too easy in my opinion, too easy in fact,

Cheers

Try some Gummi pfledge or similar on the rubber seal, it softens and swells the rubber to restore the original seal. I use it on my hard-top convertible seals
