I took our new Malibu 640 to Van Bitz today to get a Growler alarm fitted. They mentioned a possible design flaw so I wonder if anyone has noticed and hopefully overcome this problem.

They noticed that the water tank, situated in the RHS as you look into the van from the back, and the gas cupboard on the LHS are both fitted tight against the back of the rear light clusters. So if a bulb blows, there is no way to change it!!!

This could be a big issue if a brake light bulb blows in France and we get stopped by the Police.

Can anyone point to an easy solution or should I contact Carthago to point this out, though they should have noticed this themselves.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Chris

Can’t they be changed from the “outside “ of the van ?
I’m not sure. Looking at the external cluster, it doesn’t look like it, but we haven’t owned it for very long so I might have missed the external fixings.

Join the owners club. I'm sure someone on their facebook page will have the answer, else ask the dealer.

If you read the Malibu manual that should have been provided with your van it explains how to access the rear light clusters.

Thanks Dilwyn. You are correct. I haven’t read the whole manual yet as we only collected the Malibu on Saturday.

Its good to know that it isn’t a design flaw, though a few tools will be required. Just in case anyone gets here from a search engine, I have attached photos of the relevant pages in the manual which explain how to change the bulbs of a 640.

Thanks everyone for all your help

Chris
