On 3rd van so not a total newbie....
Looking at getting a couple of e bikes, but trying to work out how to carry them, previously we have used either old bike carriers bolted to wooden battens, it currently removed the front wheel and clamped in place, e bike MTBs are much heavier and have much larger Frames which won't fit normal carriers, so just wondered what people were using?

Yes, but the point is the size /shape of the frame won't fit in a standard carrier.

My two ebikes fit on the standard bike carrier on the back of the MH. One is a hybrid Cube LTD CLS the other is a Claude Butler Legend ladies bike. Neither are small. Why would yours not fit.....

The ebike kit added 4kg to the weight of the standard bike without battery.

I am looking to carry in the garage not on the rear, "traditional" carriers are built to clamp on small diameter down tubes, not the the massive tubes on e MTBs? Unless I'm wrong, probably looking at the rad fazz brackets, as need to drop the front wheels to reduce the height.

We have a Fiamma Carry-Bike Garage Plus in the garage the arms use straps not clamps. On one bike we use the seat post to clamp in place on the other the main frame. Back wheels strapped in place in the wheel runners.

When not in use it all folds up to give a bit more space.

Just strap ours to the back wall, racks in the garage take up far too much space.

I am in the Lenny camp, strap both e-bikes into garage using ratchet straps with old cushions between the two to stop any chafing no problems.

Always remove pedals and twist the handlebars through 90 degrees, saves even more space.

Fitted removable peddles to ours makes it so much easier to get the bikes in and out, don't find the handelbars a problem & too much hassle to turn them.

Where did you get removable pedals?
Or are they the normal ones and just unscrew.
Have tried foldable ones but not too happy with them - creak under load after a while.

Ours are MKS, they just push in to a collar, yellow clip is to stop acidental release. They ar £40 - £50 a pair.

I have these ones, bought on eBay.

I carry 2 ebikes in my garage and can load both in about 2 minutes max firstly I fitted one of these to the garage wall
20190324_105831.jpg

Next I fix 2 adjustable cross bars to both bikes same as this

Screenshot_20190302-225641_Gallery.jpg

Then I fix the first bike to the clamp I fitted to the garage wall then I fit a bike carrier clamp from the false crossbar on the first bike to the false crossbar on the 2nd bike job done looks like this

This way I have no clamps gripping the frames on my ebikes everything is held in place clamped onto the false cross bars that fit onto the bikes around the seat post and handlebar stem

Bikes are rock solid and do not move I usually chock front and back wheel of 2nd bike just to prevent sideways movement buts that's just me being over cautious

yes agree, we have a built in bike rack in our garage, takes up far too much room and don't use it now, it is just folded up out of the way, bikes strapped to wall
I must remove it totally one day.

With front wheels off you can turn the handle bars to whatever position you want, I use a Fiamma bike rack, slide out type for 2 eBikes, load up while out and push in, works well for us, wheels can be put anywhere you want, alongside the bikes or stowed where space permits.
Good idea to take off pedals and batteries, removing pedals is no great chore, which allows you to buy the type that suit your riding style.

If I had to mess about like that we would probably never use the bikes, easier just to buy a van with a big garage, well that's what we did.

Well in our first eBike year we managed 5000km and 4860km....we don't find our carrying method to be of any hassle whatsoever, once arrived at our destination bikes out until we leave, making them secure around the van, then away again, secure and in the dry.
Just looked at your garage photo, you have mudguards on your bikes as well as folding pedals.....(y)

folding pedals..
Detachable peddles, makes getting them in and out of the van a lot quicker. Always keep them in the garage. In that pic the garage was nearly empty, spare cassette & washing machine weren't even in there.:)
Now we have a 160 Lt water tank don't bother with the 2 x 20 Lt water container used to carry in the last van.:ROFLMAO:

We are in the Fiamma pro garage bike rack. As it slides out it makes it much easier to access them. One bike face s in the other out which means I don’t need to have folding pedals but I do turn the handles to give me more room which is not an issue

That’s a great set up if you don’t mind me asking where did you get the wall clamp and the crossbars from?

Shaun929 The wall clamp is an old bike stand I doctored but you can buy this off eBay

The cross bars were off eBay too but I think halfords sell them cheaper

Then the bar that attaches both bikes to each other is something like this you could use a thule or fiamma one

I can load both bikes in about a minute and a half and they are rock solid

I was going to add some stands, but I think they aren’t needed and will just make things harder to load. So I’m just going to fit some bike rack gutters and ratchet strap to the back wall. I wanted to fit some clamps, but I dare not screw holes in the back wall, so I’m at a bit of a loss where to put them.

The garage is fuller than usual at the moment, so loading is a chore. Once the oven and inverter are fitted, and we aren’t away for so long, I won’t need a garage full of appliances. Folding pedals would make life easier, but I cannot get the existing ones off, so they will have to wait!
