I'm a newbie
Hi,
Just an idea, what are people opinions on having fitted carpet in their motor homes good or bad.

Mine came with them, and initially I liked them for the additional comfort underfoot, but I have to say that after removing them for our first summer in France I've never put them back in.

Ours didn't have any when we bought it but having used the MH in winter, the floor did feel rather cold underfoot! Plan is to get one made for the winter months and take it out during the summer. Just waiting for the restrictions to be relaxed so we can get some made (recommendations welcome!)

They charge stupid prices for them as an option so we don't order them.
I made loose lay mats from Marvel mats, only cost 100 quid & throw them in the washing machine after a trip.

Our van came with a beige carpet that was very difficult to keep clean and after about two years it got so badly stained we removed it. It just so happened that we had some off cuts left over from the new carpet in the house, so we took the old carpet to an overlocker and got them to use it as a template to create new carpets for the van. They are a dark grey and don’t seem to show the dirt so much.
I do like the feel of carpet underfoot and it’s easy to keep clean with a dustpan and brush. It only gets a thorough vacuum when we get home and have power.

Our carpet is secured with poppers, I take them out and clean them with Actiwash and pressure washer then hang them on the washing line. They come up like new.
I thought only dog owners would take them out permanently 🐕😷😊

In summer we may just use one of two smaller mats and leave the rest of the floor clear but in winter you can't beat having the floor covered with something so we have some very large dirt grabber type mats (similar to Lenny's) which hubby cut to size for a good fit, they are easy to take out and 'bash' to get the dust out of and brushing with a rubber teethed brush gets the dog hairs etc off, the vinyl floor then just needs a sweep out, another advantage is that they have a rubber backing so if you spill anything on them it doesn't go through.

We use carpet tiles about 18” x 18” square. Easy to fit and easy to replace one if you spill something on them. Hint suggest you heat them up on the back with a hair dryer and them to size from the back.

If using carpet tiles it's a good idea to write on the back where each one goes once cut to shape otherwise the first time you remove them to give them a clean you'll end up scratching your head as to where they should go when putting them back ... I like jigsaws but when I had to remove some carpet tiles from our conservatory floor and put them back a week later it was a pain as our conservatory tapers along one wall so working out which was which was a nuisance.

I like them but take the main walkway piece out as it in front of the cooker. Last year I was opening a tin of sardines and dropped it! Cleaned up the vinyl floor but if the carpet had been in, I would still be smelling oily fish and carpet would have been binned.

We do like the comfort of carpets, wouldn't be without them.

Most people don't tend to roll about on them with their legs in the air though 😄 ... or do they 🤔 ... maybe doing other things!

Only put them in ours to stop grit & sand scratching the floor, can't be bothered to take shoes off every time we go in & out of the van.

We take out the carpets that come with the van, store them away in the loft and use loose fitting marvel mats. Much easier to keep clean.

Done the same for two vans now, removed original ‘fitted’ carpets and used as templates on a £25 roll end to make fully fitted. Just taped ends using staples and hot glue. Will just chuck and replace if they get too messed up!

I like carpet but got rid as I walked goose poo in from a farm and it wouldn't clean off. :(

Check out carpet whipping / binding services on the internet.
Cut your own and have the edges then done, you then have the best of both worlds, professional looking removable carpets.
Cost about £3.00 a linear metre to get them done, much cheaper than permanent fitted carpet and more flexible.

Like Stealaway I used a large leftover piece of carpet from a previous house. I made a paper template then cut the carpet to size. It looks OK. I regard it as a throwaway item if it gets stained, so haven't bothered with edging.

The official removable carpet set was an extra that cost over £300 so I didn't add it to the Order. It would probably have lived in the loft until resale time.

We have removable carpets. They are the best of both worlds. Remove in summer if lucky enough to be in hot or sandy places, put them back in for warmth and comfort in winter. They can be taken out for a more thorough vacuuming or wash when needed too.

We went to an independent carpet store but we had the old ones they could use to replicate the size/shape. They did a great job! Think they were about £200.
Maybe you can get the measurements for yours if someone on here has the same van??

... never been able to teach the dogs to wipe their feet either and their paws aren't removable. :giggle:
