Probably been done to death but anyone recognise this ? I bought the van from Germany and have German manual (don’t speak or read German). It a Caro....square type satellite Ariel...is Caro something to do with Oyster....seems to be a 2002. I have attached it to an Avtex TV but it doesn’t seem to try and find Astra 2.....should it....try’s to find Astra 1...is that no more. Don’t hold out much hope but I thought I’d at least try. Whizzes around on the roof but TV just says no signal and then seems to ask for Astra 2b, d or whatever. No idea what I’m doing😥

Thanks

You have the old type of control box, i think you will find that you need to have a different box to enable it to find Astra 2. Try speaking to Robert Jackson rpjackson@tiscali.co.uk very helpful advice given. If you like tell him Tony from Plymouth said give him a call. I have no financial interest just he’s been very helpful to me on several occasions given I bought a unit from him several years ago.

OK thanks Tony, will give him a call....more expense I suspect 🙄

  • Play with the menu and change it to English. It's quite easy.
  • Connect you receiver box.
  • I used to have a Sky box. (still have a 12v kicking about somewhere)
  • Go through the menu and find "Search Satellites" and select Astra 2 and try it but make sure there are no trees in any angle to the sky.
  • Try an Auto search for Astra 2. You might be lucky that it's been updated but I doubt it as Germans dont use Astra 2 so it will spin around for 10 mins and say "no satellite found"
  • Go back to the search satellites screen and select Astra 1
  • search for Astra 1. it should find it because Astra 1 has not moved the last I knew.
  • Get the signal strength display of the satellite box on the tv screen.
  • select manual search and press the right arrow. The dish should move Anti clock wise when looking down on the roof. Press the right arrow a further 9 times. let the dish move and stop each time.
  • After this press the up arrow once, the dish should move vertical. press four more times.
  • You should now see the signal bars. you may have to raise the dish slightly more vertical further south you go.
  • Play with the angle and rotation 1 click at a time until you get thr best signal.
  • Press OK on the controller. Now if you switch the controller off and the sat dish closes, it will open to the last position.
  • if you move the van you have to do it again.
I spent hours doing the other methods hit and miss but moving from Astra 1 to Astra 2 took seconds once you get the hang of it.

Let me know if you need any help. I sold the van that had mine just over a year ago but still remember how it's done.

Bottom line us, find Astra 1 automatically, manually move 10 steps anti clockwise and 5 steps vertical and you will have some sort of signal.

We have a Caro dish made by Oyster on our 2005 van, ours works fine now and this square dish is good even in wind.

If you contact Anthony at Oyster sat tech he will talk you through what you need to do free of charge, it's conplicated( To me anyway)

If you have the smaller controller then you can reprogram the satellite settings to update it.
The OP has the Caro 1 box with the map of Europe and these can no longer be updated. Oyster will offer a replacement controller but to the best of my knowledge it was Round £800.
Better off getting a Mifi system and Firestick for much less.

Yes we have the smaller controller so we're lucky then.
