Do you mean European driving permits....?

I’m going over next week without one for 5+ weeks and if it happens the best that can happen is that they won’t let me come back in to the uk....:D

No Brexit likely before 31 October now, and doubtful without an agreement even then...

are well pi**ed off in that they've had to employ hundreds of Eastern Europeans to change their "We're sorry your leaving" cards to read "Merry Christmas"!

Last week my Post Office provided an IDP on request, for £5.50. No problem at all.(y)

There is so much uncertainty about the date on which the UK will leave the EU and on what transition arrangements that an IDP seemed a sensible precaution.

Green Cards are a different story because we are in the hands of our MH insurers who seem confused.

5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
Oh here we are again, heading toward Brexit date two, so I got my IDP as I am in Europe in October just in case!!
My last encounter with someone with an IDP was an eastern European I met in the barbers, who had purchased his off the internet.....now I see why that was so easy, this document is IMHO virtually worthless due to lack of security protocols.

Am I correct in suggesting that there are two different IDP's depending on which European countries you are proposing to visit?

There are 3 types of IDP:
  • 1926 IDP
  • 1949 IDP
  • 1968 IDP
The type of IDP you need depends on the country you will be driving in.

Yes, there is three, because some countries are running on different dates of agreements for documentation as I understand it.

Interesting that in post apocolypic Brexit, most countries will accept the GB photocard licence if you are not there long term and some countries not even then

I got the 1949 and the 1968 IDPs when the original brexit scare was on. The 1926 one seems to be only for Liechtenstein so easier just not to go there.

"Forget documents, who gives a stuuf? Just let em in"!!

They seem to think so from the following link (Last updated 12 August 2019) :-

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in-the-eu-after-brexit-international-driving-permits

Pete
But they said they were sure in March!!!. Also for most people how could you get away without one as most land in France and they say that we are going to need one? I bet there are a lot who bought one in Feb this year having being told they needed one only to find it will last 6 months less before the expiry at least.
