Brand new, converting from caravaning.
Thanks BB, we've never ventured into Scotland so without being rude what is it like driving around North area with a motorhome, are the roads ok?
Dave
Fantastic Dave. From Penrith or Morpeth north you will notice how much quieter the roads are for a start. There is just not the volume of traffic up here.

The roads in the far north are often single track with passing places but normally accessible with longer vehicles such as motorhomes. We have planned a trip up to John O'Groats and then westwards across the north coast and then down the North west coast. We do not anticipate any great problems as long as care is taken and you accept the higher fuel prices!

We also intend to visit a famous seafood restaurant in Applecross and this will mean a journey west to east on the Bealach na Ba which is a historic pass through the mountains. Have a look at this link

I am assured that west to east is easier but with care it is passable in a 7m motorhome so we will be giving it a go. Worst thing that can happen is that I have to reverse all the way back to the pub for more seafood!!

Hi Dave, I think a lot of us on here are ex tuggers (I did 20 years) but now find motorhoming more convenient.
Welcome to the fun. :welc:

That looks stunning Malky, just checked where we're going, we start at Bunree, go up to Culloden travelling alongside Loch Ness and then across to Morvich, which is only 26 miles away from Bealach na Ba, if the weather's ok then it would be worth a drive by the looks of it, hopefully the clutch would take it!

Getting There since 2013
Hello and Welcome you'll find a lot of quieter roads up north and some great scenery and up here in Scotland it will be good for you to get a wild camping night under your belt ;) Another good thing for the motorhome you can join britstops.com if you don't want to go wilding all the time :)

Hi Dave & welcome we are new funsters and ex tuggers too. Had 2 weeks in Scotland in September, lovely weather helped and the feeling of freedom to stop almost anywhere was great. We had a meal in the loch fyne sea food shack and they were happy for us to overnight in the car park.

Welcome.

We are also ex tuggers (30+ years) but changed to MH about 8 years ago.

We booked for our first holiday in France but not booked anywhere since. We just go where the mood takes us.

Since 2008 & many years tugging
Welcome.
We were tuggers for over 20 years, best thing we ever did changing to a Motorhome.
We did Scotland 3/4 years ago, only stayed on a site for 2 nights as it was convenient for walking up Ben Nevis, rest of the time we wild camped. in fact we rarely use sites at all you just don't need them with a Motorhome.
We find we have changed the way we do things, often visit a place stay the night move on the the next, we find we do far less miles & see more than we did did when tugging, as you don't have to keep driving back to the same base.
