Any one been?
We could be able to visit
I know there is camping nearby
Just a vague thought / idea at present
Not sure tramping around a show is our thing and we are not in a position to change our van anyway

We went last year and we will be going this year. The trade day was civilised but the next 2 days we were there were so busy. We stayed in a hotel with free public transport to and from the show. Roads to the show were chocker.
Worth seeing vertually every manufacturer. We ordered 3 Possl Campervans to rent for the UK summer season - still waiting for a delivery date though!!!

Yes we have been at least 3 if not 4 times, never change the van but enjoy looking(y)

It is a big exhibition centre with loads of car parking all around it, for the show they use some of this parking to house up to 2000 motorhomes, oh yes it's big. When we first started going you just turned up and they put you in a spot and then you paid each day that you were there, after a couple of years they introduced a booking system and we turned up without booking and got turned away to another parking area a few miles away:mad: anyway it still worked OK as we had tickets for the show and these get you free use of public transport.

So last year we decided we had better book which was easy enough online including the tickets for show entry, turn up show your booking and get parked up, there are courtesy buses from the parking to the entrance and then at 7pm the buses are finished doing the show shuttle so they take you into Dusseldorf centre every 15 minutes or so and then bring you back later.

If you are going the best thing to do is join the Caravan Salon and then you get discounts on your show tickets and camping, usually there is an English page for going this but I can't find it at the moment, I will keep looking.

Martin

Not been for a few years, but camping is close to the halls and shuttle buses are there to take you, you can also get a bus into town.
We got 3 day tickets but someone gave us tickets for the fourth day.  Bob.

English option at the top of the front page if the system doesn't automatically direct you there by knowing which country you are coming from.

I think that perhaps you may have answered your own question!(n)
Thanks everyone
dabhand you could be correct its just we are likely to be passing fairly close while it is on

we knew what we wanted to look at so took a same day return flight. Worked well and there was a free shuttle from the airport. gave us 5 hours in the show - didn't have the energy to stay any longer.

Very dangerous we have been 3 times guess what bought a new van each time. I'm banned now.

As Martin says join the Caravan Salon Club. Entry ticket also give free bus & train transport in Dusseldorf. On the day you get there arrive after 4pm as you only pay for camping during the day 8:30 am to 4pm. If you are used to UK show prices you are in for a shock at how low they are, complete with evening entertainment & reasonably priced food and beer in the big marquee by the camping area.

Unless you want a quick wizz round just to say you have been you need two to three days to do it justice.

I would say it is still the same as it has always been, make sure you do all your services before going in, it was just as you entre through the gates ?
@funflair Martin.
And yes it's big, you can spend many hours looking at motorhomes ;) and not just in the halls, the camping area has some intresting ones to look at. (y) Bob.

Yes the service area is as you go it but we always arrive WC/grey empty and fresh water full then just use the cassette dump points dotted around the camping area and then usually leave and dump the water at the next stop as it can get busy around the service point.

Never noticed the dump points around the camping area, note: must try harder.
Never had a problem servicing there even when busy it's so well organised with staff filling you up with water while you dump the cassette.

Only been the last 2 more three years, portaloos dotted around but no water at them. Agree about the organised bit I think we used it once.

Getting nearer to the Show now - anyone going? We've registered with Caravan Salon Club & are receiving their Clubmails, it looks as if it's recommending you to wait to buy tickets & camping from the 15th July?

Cheers

We are planning on going, I don’t think camping and ticket sales open till sometime in Jul.

Martin

We're also planning to go, agree with the comments about good organisation especially around service point...more like a pitstop!!
The show is vast but didn't feel as crowded as the NEC show.
Looking forward to it?

For those who have been before - is there a "best" day to arrive?

Been there 4 times already. First time we were total newbies, spent a day, went home knackered but with a measure of the task ahead to get up to speed. Following year, went 2 days, ended up ordering the first Bürstner with a lowerable bed. Big mistake, the bed never worked properly. The next year we went back, they took our Bürstner back with a 13% depreciation and we bought a caravan. That was in 2011.
In June 2018 we decided to go back to a motorhome and went to Düsseldorf 2 days to get an overall update on the market.
We going again this year to order. We've planned to be there from Monday to Friday and avoid week-ends.

For newcomers:
  • the show opens at 10AM. No need to get up at down :)
  • the show is busy, some stands so crowded it is very difficult to properly visit a van. Pössl was the worst in that regard last year. When we finally were able to start to talk to a salesman, he got called in the middle of the conversation and we never saw him again.
  • the last hour before closing is actually the one when there are the least people.
  • have cash to pay for food and beverages
  • possible with a dog, but this year we'll bring a caddy for the dog. Stop laughing.
  • if you plan to buy, you'd better have made your choice before going. It is actually not a good place to get all the details rights. Too much crowd. Start visiting dealers and collect information way before the fair. Going with a shortlist of 2 models is OK too :)
  • the best way to get information on some extras is to spend the first day in the accessories part and go to the stands of Dometic, Thetford, Fiamma, Thule, Truma, AL-KO, Alphatronics, etc... You'll get a chance to talk to someone who actually knows the stuff. Motorhome salespeople cannot possibly know the details of all those equipments.
  • walking shoes only. Pretty shoes will have you crying. This is for men as well.

Just booked, may have to lay low from 'er indoors for a few days. :D
Arriving Sunday after 4pm in the show Mon 2nd & Tues 3rd.
I see they have not increased the entry for years still €6 for 2 days but they have wound up the price of the camping, now charging for overnighting.

We've got our 2 day tickets with the camping/parking place... what's the best/cheapest way to get another days entry to the show. I'm thinking apply for another 2 day pass using wife's details????

You can buy up to 5 tickets on each Caravan Salon Culb membership, or talk to a dealer nicely at the show if they think you are interested in buying they give you vouchers for tickets.

Not a planned trip, but we are passing through after attending a wedding in Ghent. Arriving after 4pm on Sunday 1st, same as Lenny HB, so will keep an eye open for the famed Gin Palace and any others attending.
