Thought I was being quite cute in having two sets of storm straps for our canopy as we are often camped up to a lake/river. Roll the canopy in if it looks a too gusty, ditto we don't leave it out at night if the weather forecast shows a storm front coming in.
Never had an issue except after our last trip we noticed the actual canopy housing where its fixed to the motorhome was looking a bit suspect. On inspection by those that know we needed to have to have it removed, add replacement fixing gismos and the canopy re fixed. Lesson learnt!

So the double storm straps have pulled the fixings too hard?
No. the straps have kept the front in place but the wind has put stress on the canopy unit where it’s fixed to the motorhome.

Could it be the canopy has been extended without the support of the legs at some stage, this places extreme stress on the fixings to the vehicle and could distort them. Maybe a previous owner?

Good thought but we are the only owners from new and have always just extended the canopy by 2/3rds then the legs.

Always get legs down as soon as you can reach them. Too much leverage when 2/3 out.

I had an awning damaged (slightly torn) by the awning strap that goes across the canopy. I now use the Fiamma type that slides into the awning rail.
I also drilled holes in the awning legs and put stainless cotter pins through them. Rock solid now.
And I made 2 plates to go over the 'feet" of the awning legs.

My friend noticed his motor home windows were running inside with condensation, puzzled he opened it up to find the awning had pulled the side away from the roof and left an 1/2 inch gap where the wall should have joined roof
The vehicle was full of water from the gap
Granted it was a big awning, 5m perhaps on a 6 wheel MH
It wasn’t written off but it was a mess
Big steel plates were fitted to avoid it happening again
As others have said , legs down ASAP !

And put it away if there's any doubt at all or if it's not being used. The good thing about wind out awnings is how easy it is to put them up or put them away.

Those look like a copy of Jezports 😗 🤣

A lot of my stuff is copied across the globe.
Shame the person who damaged their awning with a caravan tiedown didnt have one of my designs.
Im starting on my mk2 gas to induction hob conversion, I wonder if the copies will be out before I finish?

You are supposed to fit it under the canopy across the top of the arms.

I couldn't do that as I have a Fiamma Zip awning. I almost never use the whole privacy room but do zip on the sides to give shelter for cooking on the Cadac.
The Fiamma slide on straps work for me but do increase my footprint a fair bit.
