Hi Folks, I have started this new thread as it went Off Topic on the Poppit thread.
As background: When travelling in France. Free.fr offer a 210Gb phone sim with unlimited phone and texts in the EU 7p charge for texts to the UK.
These can be obtained from a machine which are situated in very many Tabacs over France or in the Free.fr shops which are in many supermarket complexes.
The sim costs €10 and the monthly charge is €19.99 which is a pretty good deal for what you get. When buying from the machine you can either do it month by month which means that you have to get a new sim every month at a cost of €10 plus the €19.99 or chose a monthly contract which will charge to your credit card each month. The only downside of the second option is that it has to be cancelled by registered letter in French which is the norm in France, they won't usually do it online and will usually ignore a non registered letter.
I have attached a sample cancellation letter (in French) which has worked for me. With the variables in Red, hope it makes sense.
When you have edited it run it through Google Translate to check that what you have done makes sense. Hope it works for you.
Steve

Do you mean a 'tracked and signed for' letter? The cost to send one is £7 so is it worth the hassle of a contract unless you are going to need it for over 2 months?

I usually print and send is while in France which costs about €4.50 and gets there quicker. So it depends on how long you are there two months and it is €10 against €4,50 or £7 three months and it is €20.

It is only a monthly contract "Sans Engagement" but registered letters are required in France. You can't even do it in one of their shops.

I’ve kept mine as I intend to return to France in the spring however I changed it online to €2 per month and I’ll change it back before I go. I think this is in the long run easier than finding a machine and setting up a new SIM card.

But the €2 deal doesn't work outside France or can you receive calls? I couldn't get an answer when I enquired. But doesn't it cost €10 each time to change so no benefit. We have had no problems finding machines, they are in Tabacs all over France all shown online.
It only takes a couple of minutes to buy one and I have never had to do anything other than putting it in the router.
