We like canals and the Canal du Midi has one big advantage over most UK canals............................sunshine.
Here's a couple of pics from one of our favourite free stops.
Sorry, can't tell you where it is as I would have to kill you.

Grimbergen beer. Lovely, and actually very cheap in a supermarket.
Agree on the quality and taste but not, alas, on the price.

Cheap compared to buying in a bar yes, but still not cheap.

Also enjoy Leffe when touring the continent. (Only after stopping for the night, of course).

I don’t know if I was lucky but in October I was buying 24 packs of 250ml Leffe for 11euro something and 6 packs of Grimbergen for less than 5euro in the supermarkets?

That is Homps, we live about three miles from it. It is in all the apps so no need to keep it secret. Nice place to stop but no official services.
Nice cafe, Rive Gouche, by the bridge in the second picture or a very nice restaurant next door called Bon Company good food reasonably priced especially at lunch time. It's cold in winter though which is why we are in Portugal at the moment.

Not knocking British ( or any other countries canals) but you rarely get a view like this when your cycling the towpaths....

Some stretches of the Canal du Midi are quite rural & pretty going through interesting little town & villages with cafes & restaurants in abundance eg Colombiers (Camping Peupliers there) you must have passed through it between Le Somail & Beziers) then south of Beziers there is the charming village of Villeneuve Beziers (Camping Berges du Canal) a very pleasant town.

Further North there is Trebes (Municipal camping A L'ombre des Micocouliers) another very pleasant town with easy cycling along the Canal to Carcasonne

Just saying:):D2

Absolutely agree! Of course the advantage is the weather! Love UK canals also but not so easy to find accessible camp sites in UK excepting Devizes of course.:)
