Or is it a case of seeing if they have space on the day you travel (phone ahead sites excepted of course)?
Didn't want to sound stupid on the phone. Don't mind seeming a bit dim on here though - you're a nice bunch.

Just call to check they have space, some specifically say just turn up. We have booked restaurant tables at the venues we have been to, and we let them know then.

We have booked a couple on the phone ahead option, but only about a week beforehand. Also promised that if plans change would phone and cancel.
