We have a 3 burner Can hob with a glass lid. This hinges up but sits at 90° and is prone to dropping if the motorhome shakes. I've tried to tighten the hinge pivots but don't want to run the risk of being too tight and the glass breaks. There doesn't seem to be any springs in the hinges to keep the lid vertical. Any thoughts please people?

Can you fabricate a simple catch to hold it in place and screwed to a wall?

Sadly not as the window blinds are only a few mil away. Any protrusion into their space would stop them moving.

Our glass cover has a metal plate attached to the side of the glass with a hinge so when the cover is open one swings the plate at right angles and it rests on the bit of worktop so holds the cover erect. It also acts as a heat shield for the adjacent wall. The plate stows into two slots in the cover hinge at the bottom of the cover before closing.

simply glue a small neodymium magnet to the lid and another to the blind surround. Keep it simple and things work as they should

Good principle but if a similar 'plate' is not available how about a simple metal rod like many vehicles still use to hold up the bonnet when opened? It would need some kind of hinge glued to the glass (I love gorillas!! 😉).

Or a shelf bracket that's not fixed to any part of the cooker but to a 'U' shape channel that you slip onto the side of the lid when it's 'up' such that the bracket points forward from the lid, near the bottom, and rests on the worktop beside the hob.
Bracket & U channel available from your favourite branch of B&Q or similar.

I know what I mean but it's not easy to describe in a few words so feel free to message me if you need a diagram!
