I have a Peugeot Starblazer with an electrical problem.

The battery went flat over time so I put the van charger on for a day then went out to start it and it was totally dead so I put a new battery on and tried to start it but it would only turn over not start the lights on the dash were not lighting up and the wipers and heater blower was will not working. If I tap the negative lead on the battery the heater fan runs for a second. When I take the key out of the ignition the oil light stays on dim. I think it could be the starter relay but I have looked at all the relays under the bonnet and they look ok. Please help

Sorry I can'thelp but sure someone wll soon.

Sorry if this is a daft suggestjon but is there a fuse that might have popped? My last van had one under the bonnet that caused problems with 12v.

funflair.?

I'm impressed Joy ;)....sounds like an earth problem, connection braking down maybe...

Thanks for the reply’s I did have a problem with the earthing strap but if it was that it would not turn over fast but I will have a look at that. I have put jump leads on as well just in case the new battery was not up to it.
Just thinking it could be the alternator regulator.

The jump leads suggestion was to reconnect the negative terminal to a good earth with a jump lead, just to check your existing earth. (y)

Yep, one lead from battery to a clean metal point on engine and a second lead from either battery or engine to a clean earth on body.
Both after ensuring both battery terminals are clean and tight.
As you stated earlier, the engine cranks but won't start and no dash lights.
As already said... Micky mouse may have been having a chew on your wiring, they love PVC insulation.
Alternator reg fault wouldn't prevent the other lights coming on

Thanks will try that tomorrow and let you know the result.

Doubt it will be earthing as the OP states that a known good battery turns the engine over
I suspect something relating to the ECU.. Have you got an OBD plug in checker ?

I do hope I am wrong...........

Update
I did not think it would be the earthing cable as the engine was turning over fast but it was I gave it a wiggle just in case and the fan started to run and everything worked except the wipers witch I will have to look into.
So next job is taking earth cable off and give all the areas a good clean.
Thanks for all your help.
I may be back if I have a problem getting the wipers working.
