We have just purchased our first motorhome and are very excited about starting our travels in it. However, we are struggling with insurance, as our insurance company wants to know the base vehicle, and the dealer can only say it's a Fiat Ducato 2.3. There are quite a few vehicle types in this category, so any help from anyone would be appreciated. Our van is a Bessacarr 443, 2017 model

You need to find out what BHP is either 130/150/180 it should be on the registration document.

Yeah, we have that, but we've tried three different insurance companies tonight, and none of them have a clue what we're talking about. We were told by the dealer that it is a Fiat Ducato 2.3, 130bhp with a new Euro 6 engine. It's a long wheel base. I don't know what other information they need!

Don't know which insurance companies you're talking to but, from memory, normally you can just give them the registration number and they can get nearly everything they need from that.

This is very odd. I've insured three motorhomes and never had to give this kind of information. Are you speaking to specialist motorhome insurers?

w2f and another vote for trying Comfort Insurance. Something isn't right if they can't identify a 2017 model !

I think you must be talking to car insurers, you need the companies who specialise in Motorhome insurance.
Another vote for Comfort.

@Linda Bruce Hope you don't mind me nosing around, but the Bessecarr site only lists 11 models for 2017 and the 443 isn't one of them.

There is a 442 on there and if your dealer has given you an incorrect model number, it may explain why the insurer can't find it.

This link has the 2017 layouts, which you can check to see which yours is and it does confirm the 442 as being a 2.3 litre 130 bhp

My Motorhome insurance is up for renewal shortly and I used Go Compare to sort out for next year. Might be worth inputting your details and see what comes up. This last year my insurance has been arranged by Advance (Equity Red Star) but I will be switching to Staveley Head at the end of the month.

Welcome Im with safegauard all you have to tell them is reg number and fiat 2.3 150 bhp . I also agree with the above Comfort Insurance is very good . They may also want to know if you have a alarm and tracker fitted.

Thanks to all who answered. We have managed to get sorted out with the Co-op. The problem was that, with the van being brand new it wasn't registered with the DVLA and therefore no-one could find it. Thanks again

No problem - I realised immediately after posting that I had said 443 instead of 442! Sorry!
