We are going to a birthday party in Barnstaple this weekend. There are one or two campsites in the area, has anyone any experience of these. We plan to get taxi's in and out of town so the closer the cheaper, but not at the expense of a poor site. We also plan to take the bikes and cycle some of the Tarka trail so any feedback appreciated.
Many thanks.

grasscutter,

Stayed on a pleasant site a couple of weeks ago at South Molton about 10 miles from Barnstaple. Very clean but surprisingly quiet for a Bank Holiday.
Very handy for Exmoor.

For the Tarka Trail probably this one, although never used it ourselves.

sites in Barnstaple

Hi Grasscutter, Patty and I often go to B'staple for a weekend and we park up in the train station car park in our A/S Clubman, it's not a camp site but it will only cost you the price of parking, all quite legal too,,,,,,then just over the bridge is the new J.D.Wetherspoons pub. Have a good weekend,,,,Jack & Patty, Cornwall

Defo another for riverside exmoor. We stayed there the first year it opened, and it was great. Basck then the trees were still saplings, so you could hear the main road at night - not by no means instrusive.

People that own it are lovely - and for those that have toads, or for tuggers, the owner does his rounds ever hour or two to make sure everything is secure.

Pitches have full service as standard - own grey waste dump, water supply, power and Aerial connection. During quiet times, they will even give to a one of the picnic tables on site and place it outside your outfit.

There is a small shop onsite, and they were building fishing lakes - they should be done by now. Barnstaple, Exmoor, Ilfracombe all within easy reach - nearest town South Molton has a supermarket amoungst others.
