We are hoping to go to Portugal in June visiting the inland area, having trouble finding many sites even using ACSI, and Caravan Europe. Does anyone know of a publication which will give us some information, or are all the sites by the sea?
Took the van for a spin on Friday, will soon be off to the hinterlands of GB .

Get the full version of Camper Contact. It includes campsites, aires and wild camping spots, and has a translator so you can understand comments left by previous visitors to those locations. You can also use off line. Cost about 6 quid for a year

As far as I can see the campsite situation for motorhomes in Portugal is quite dynamic at present. There are a good number of traditional sites, lower standard paid for aires which range from car parks with some toilet disposal as low as 1.5 euros a night to better facilities at 5 to 7.5 euros. New places are opening all the time so will not always be in the guides Sensible and considerate wild camping is tolerated in most places but complaints to the GNR are usually acted upon. Once you get here ask around in the campsites you stop at and there is a world of useful information about stopping points. Having a decent facility such as camper contact though is a good start

Hi
There are "Campismo Municipais " sites and a book "Orbitur Camping" buying the book entitles you to a discount and is like ACSI and will give you some of the Municipal sites as well.
Inland, lots of Dutch run sites, but if you want to really get away from it all out in the country side,a general rule is,it it has not got a fence, this could be a bit of string/rough stick barrier/old branch across the land ,go for it.
One Caution!. Do not block a Forest track,it could be a Bombeiros-Fire service access road and do not have an open Fire usualy between April and November,or you will get a 1.000 euro fine.Should you be near a fire in among the eucalyptus,GET OUT. They boil internally, then explode.

Edit. Bring all your cards, tickets etc. At Municipais sites, you can nearly get a discount for being right handed (Or left ? PC :ROFLMAO:)

Thanks for all the useful information we will definitely give Portugal a try in June. As we enjoy the History, and culture more than the seaside at our advanced years I am sure we will enjoy it, will post a summary when and if we get back
