we are looking for campsites near off road cycle tracks, e.g. dissused railway lines, preferably in the north west, but any locality would be worth considering. SWMBO is currently a bit unsteady on the bike and wants somewhere reasonably safe. Ideas appreciated

CL site at Moss Croft Treales near Preston Handy for the Guild Wheel and national cycle trail or Haildays Farm on Moss Lane at Myesrcough just open and a CL site Fabulous bakery next door very close to Lancaster Canal easy off road cycling

Can't specifically answer your question, because we live too close to need a site, but if you can find somewhere close to Lancaster, there is an off-road cycle track that goes from Caton all the way through Morecambe, with a good few loops of it. Then the sea front is traffic free to Heysham. Then have breakfast at Half Moon Bay!!

Little Stubbins CL just up the road from us in Garstang has almost immediate access onto the Lancaster Canal

Almost forgot Lytham St Annes has two dedicated motorhome parking areas and waste disposal point useful for the cycletrack along the promenades to Fleetwood, via Blackpool and Cleveleys and the motorhome parking at Fleetwood near the Marine Hall again dedicated areas for M/homes and you could do the track the *wrong way* or catch the Knott End ferry and a cycletrack all the way off road to Pilling

Hi,

Can you tell me if the surface alongside the canal is dirt, cinders or tarmac please? Or a mixture even? It sounds like my sort of spot!

Thanks, had forgotten that site, must be 20 years since we were there.

Have a look at pitchup.com you can specify sites near all sorts of activities nearby including near cycle ways etc.
Or look at the Sustrans cycle network page on the internet.
You can also tick the show cycle routes on google maps.

Middlewood Farm Fillingdales near Robinhoods bay. There is direct access to the cinder track to Whitby one way or Scarbourgh the other way. The hill after Robinhoods bay is a bit steep.
Walked the coast path one way and back via the cinder track to Whitby.
A nice site on the edge of the village with a shop and nice pub. Of coarse you have to go down to Robinhoods bay for chippy tea.

Sorry I miss read the first post as N/E. No matter something to think of if any one wants a trip to North Yorkshire.

I assume that, by "off road", you mean "traffic free"? Not mountain bike stuff.
There are several such tracks in the Peak District and sites of many description.
Depends on how far you intend to cycle and if "out and back" linear routes are OK.
