Hi Rosemary,

We have been to Valkenburgh many times. in fact going on 6th April for 10 days.

There is a lovely camp site right in the centre, lierally 5 minutes stroll away. It is actually sited on top of the caves the market is in.

Welkom op de website van Camping Den Driesch

The town of Valkenburgh is a lovely place, quite small in size but is very picturesque. Very pretty a christmas time. Plenty of shops to spend your (his) money in. A couple of supermarkets and lots of nik nak shops. Theres a hardware store which is worth a visit, you can buy things there which you cannot buy in UK.

If this campsite cannot help you there is another one about 3 miles outside the town.

Have a great time.

Hi rosemary

We went to Valkenburg last December along with Brugge and Koln, for the christmas markets all were lovely, however we didn't stay in Valkenburg but know there is the site as previously mentioned, we parked the bus on one of the carparks all day without a problem, (the one next to the coach park) Valkenberg was the best market and the caves were great

Hi Rosemary,

Xmas !!!!
You are planning far ahead ::bigsmile: ::bigsmile:
Looks a little bit like Ineke, always planning nice trips :thumb:

If you are looking for a real camperplace and not a camping this might be an idea.
We only have few camperplaces in holland but... in Brunssum there is one !!!

see:
Camper Club Nederland camperplaatsen

if you click "zie kaart" (see map) you will see the road map

Brunssum is at a 20 km distance of Valkenburg.
This Camperplace has no facilities is free and is on a parking next to a large park, which includes ao a large childrens playground, dogs free run area, picknick area.

Hi we went there last December and stayed at the mentioned site (it was ok,access not easy) They also charge extra for showers. The position of the site is perfect to visit the town (5 min walk)While we were there it snowed (heavily) so were delayed for 24 hrs due to the site being on a hill.
Valkenburg as people have said was lovely, the caves (which are really old mines) that houses the markets are interesting.
The goods on sale at the market stalls can only be described at cheap CR*P . I read before we went that most things on sale could be purchased from any garden centres in the UK,correct :winky:
Any back this year to the German markets.

we Thought the German markets were much the same as valkenburg, except Valkenburg was bigger and much cheaper.

As for the German markets we felt that having seen one you've seen them all, that said we would recommend Koln, the stalplatz there is in a good position (if a little difficult to find first time)

From the stalplatz you can walk/stroll down the river into Koln ctr in about 1 hour, cycle in about 15 mins as it flat or catch the tram at the entrance to the stalplatz, you buy a day ticket for the trams on the tram (m/c does English about 10 euros for upto 5 people) and you get on and off as you please so easy to do all the markets there, better than the bike when your drinking Gluhwien.:ROFLMAO:

Right place, wrong time.

Nothing beats eating a pannekoeken sat outside in the main street in the hot sunshine with a nice cold beer to wash it down with.

Sort of does not work in December.

Replace the beer with a nice warm Gluwine drink, replace the sun with snow and you have a lovely atmosphere. Much better than the horrendous thunderstorm we had on our first night in May 2006.

You can go to the Christmas Market at Aachen, just over the border in Germany or catch the train to Mastric for their market.

Some of the stuff at the Valkenburgh market is cheap tac and there is some very unusual stuff, especially christmassy things.
