Just looking
The cost of staying at many campsites has increased enormously in recent years. It is now often much cheaper to stay at hotel or B&B accommodation, so what's the point of owning a motorhome, caravan or camping?

Not getting into that argument again suffice it to say that generally speaking b&b type accommodation is harder to find these days and decent hotels are not cheap.

however in answer to the question, it's not all about cost, the idea that motorhoming is cheap holidaying was always a myth.
It's about the type of holiday. The freedom and having/sleeping in your own bed.
Hotels etc tend to be in urban built up areas whilst sites tend to be in the countryside.

And for those of us who have canine companions, getting bricks and mortar accommodation is difficult.

Because my motorhome has needed some expensive repairs, a habitation certificate, tyres, etc, I have been staying at Travelodge, Premier Inn and some B&B accommodation in my travels this year. All have been very comfortable and have cost me less than staying at nearby campsites. This, combined with the high cost of fuel when driving a motorhome, makes me wonder why I'm bothering to keep my motorhome? Perhaps someone can tell me.

Apart from a resale value, compared to dead money in a B+B (Though nice to do now and again), the one thing above anything else that a MOHO has more value than any other is..... ..... FREEDOM.

Because I don’t want to sleep in somebody else’s dribbled on pillows and mattress and nor do I want to stand in the shower that gets piddled in quite frequently.

It’s also about the journey and the relaxation it offers to be in the van and heading for new adventures. Also, my motorhome is my suitcase so don’t need to pack, unpack, repack, look creased and disheveled (which I can do at any stage of being away) so for me it’s not about the costs, although they are heading to the ricadodalous end of the scale, it’s about waking up to a new view, when I want it and where I want it to be.

Now dig deep and get the van sorted, you won’t be sorry in the long run 😄👍🏻

For me, the reason is Europe. It’s a completely different type of adventuring and the van is perfect for it. In the U.K. the smaller, CL type sites are lovely.

Because you already have it now, and what makes you think you can only park on campsites?
Many on here don't pay anything most of the time ,us included, and if you get across to France you definitely don't have to pay b&b prices.
Park4night is your best friend or even britstops.

Everything is going up so it's up to you to determine how you spend your money.
A couple of threads already running on pitch prices. Have a look at this one from yesterday

I don't believe this.

Recently I stayed at Moffat CCC for two nights and it cost less than £50. Just done a quick Travelodge search for two nights in Dumfries and the cheapest for two nights is just under £130.

Why DO you have a motorhome?

I guess it depends on why you want a van. Yes it can be cheaper to use a hotel, we tried doing manchester in the van, but it worked out cheaper doing it in a hotel. So don’t use the van for the sake of it, adjust to what your doing

I love the lifestyle anyway, but if cost comes into it then the cost of Hotels and B&Bs must be increased by the cost of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and incidental snacks. I know you have to buy the food when in the MH, but it's much cheaper than eating out all the time.

If you don't see the point then sell it ASAP, they are fetching good prices right now.

Do you think the OP will subscribe...

Expensive CAMC (so I'm told) site I'm on today is £16.50 including supplement.

Chester Foodfest rally 5 nts is £25 inc MHF discount... peak period is Easter, get a hotel in Chester for £25 a night at anytime let alone Easter...
Free park up at Britstops for a few days after as I wend my home.

Yup, so expensive.

No way we would want to afford B&B or Hotels for 120 - 150 nights year.
In Spain at the moment in Valencia first time we have paid to stay anywhere in over a week after crossing to France.

Probably best that you sell yours and maybe that will stop you moaning about it on here when we are really not interested in explaining to you what motorhome-ing is really all about.
My cheeks are sore from this one, but don’t think the OP will be back to see it.

With it being a sellers market, or so I read, then it’s a good time to sell and use the cash for nights away in whatever accommodation they want, well until the cash runs out and that’s that, whereas if you had a motorhome………hmmm 🤔 let me think 🧐🤓😄

Folk like us can spend up to half a year in our MH....that's a lot of euros and pounds....we could do our overnighters totally free...but when needs be we do spend some time on campsites and even hotels when we cycle tour...if a motorhome is used for just a few nights a year....then I don't see a valid reason to have one.....just sitting unused is not a good idea...buy one, use it....👍🇪🇦

Not everyone wants to motorhome for the sake of it, may be they do motorsport meeting or something
