Is It just me or has anyone else noticed how campsite fees are rocketing, are we being taken for mugs by these companies trying to make up loses in lockdown.?
your thoughts welcome.
Joe

We noticed how much the independents are charging against the CAMC. When the CAMC then deduct the VAT their prices are now very good. This will change when the super high season rate kicks in. July/August.
Taking the high mainland England fees into account, all around £30+ we have decided as there is going to be a good spell of sunny weather, to nip over the the Isle of Wight for a look round. We have found in the main camp site fees are around £25 a night. You still have take into consideration the ferry crossing of £120 but you can see something new.

A lot of sites have deals with ferry companies so it's worthwhile checking this out before booking a ferry

Not taking you for mugs. Trying to survive.
When a campsite is shut they still have to pay the bills but with zero income.

Plus demand is rather high at the moment which always causes increases in prices.

If you think they are ripping you off? don't pay and don't go.

We are currently on the 7th site we have visited since restrictions were lifted in April. I don’t think any of them are charging more than pre Covid prices. None of them have been on the coast and only 1 had communal facilities. Most of them have had a few spaces for most of the time.

The ones that are in coastal locations and have a wide range of facilities have always been expensive in high season. High season may now be whenever they are allowed to open. If you don’t like the prices book somewhere else.

Anyone used their Acsi discount card in the UK, there's a few at €16 😉 do we pay in euros or is it £14. 😁

It's the same everywhere with campsite prices, we are paying €20 on Acsi at the moment, same pitch without the card in July/ August is €40 / €50 a night. 😎

Without the card its camperstops or free parking for us. 😁 Bob.

Yes booked ferry through CAMC. Saved about £100. The site deals are ok but are based on 5.5m. Then you add on the extra length charges and you are now at more than CAMC rate. Independent site bookings do not give flexibility on the dates. You book the period you are stating at the site. We booked ferry and now have flexibility as to where to stop. Just got of early frrry. Breakfast by the water front near Ryde and the sun is out. Enjoy your travels everyone

We've been to ten sites this year, ranging in price from £15 a night to £32 a night. We may have been able to find cheaper sites elsewhere, but they were where we wanted to go so we were OK to pay. And all the sites were excellent.

We booked sites with EHU. In April through to mid May it was pretty cold, particularly overnight. We'd have used a fair amount of gas for heating instead of electricity, so we would have had to factor that cost in if we were on more basic, cheaper sites without EHU. We're about 60% through our first 6kg Propane Gas bottle after 60 nights away since March last year! (we only use it for cooking).

I'm afraid we don't have a vineyard here lots of wild life and plenty of room for a 5 van site. We wanted to try and keep prices reasonable, all as we need now is for more of you to actually visit us and make the most of this beautiful weather.

The sites that are/have extracted the urine will regret it when it's all calmed down and they want booking's, people will remember and wont book. Well at least i wouldn't.

I think you may be right.

I can foresee two consequences to this apparent fee hike blip:

Firstly that sit owners will get used to spending the increased income, once they have made up the Covid losses, then will be reluctant to reduce the fees, clients(mug) go away then they go bust.

Secondly, the fees may be a big shock to those who have just rushed in to buy a MH or caravan and this year are getting limited use because of full sites or they are paying big fees. Some may sell and then the market might revert to a 'buyers' market'.

Although I was thinking of acquiring a different MH, only for a bit more payload and n island bed, I am happy that we have a MH 18 years old, good-quality, just been to garage for check over(Can't have 'MOT' here with RHD, but they wrote an opinion that it would pass if tested). Then went to weighbridge, if we add in water, bicycle etc. weight we would fully loaded be about 20-30kg under our max of 3850kg.

I am happy to sit out the current market conditions with our current MH, waiting to see it all calm down.

Geoff

I’m at Lyndon top site, paid 10 I think last time but now 15. So much room (100acres) but the tractor needs a lot of diesel so it’s worth it

Is lyndon top rented or do they own it. I thought I heard it was a rented site, if so their rent may have increased
