3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
We were looking for a campsite near Bishops Stortford as we just booked tickets for Comedy Shindig near by. Nearest site is a very small CL (5 pitches) and had no space. Then we rang Stylemans CS in Bishops Stortford itself. Looks a nice site on the river. £15 per night inc. EHU. They have no campers booked in from 22nd - 25th August!

Why? Is is a bad site? Surely August is peak time for camping. All this talk of motorhome/caravan popularity , staycations, difficulty to travel abroad - and yet..........

Perhaps some CL's and CS's are more last minute than others, got good reviews so if the suit fits . . .

Never been to it but live close by, location brilliant but I would be a tad careful close by the river in case it’s a bit soggy

I can’t imagine why anybody would want to go to BS. So I’m not surprised it’s not busy. How close do you want to be?

There are a few other options but further out from BS.

VXman Has it got to be in Bishops Stortford ?

We stay at https://stonehousefarmclsite.co.uk/ about 3 miles from Bishop's Stortford at Little Hadham.
It's a motorhome and caravan cl site, although just off the A120 it's a lovely little site with red kites always flying over, and very friendly owners. 🙂 Bob

It would never occur to me to stay anywhere inland?

Maybe it is under the flight path for Stansted airport?

We are staying close by at the moment, all around here you hear aircraft, but then we are staying at a house and not paying, and of course a heated pool. 😁 Bob.

I'm not sure about this fully booked info, we go away every 2 weeks for 3 nights, so far no problems booking anything, I've just booked a CL near some of Dorset's best attractions for 23rd August, £10 per night.

My guess is that it will be fine. It’s a town I used to visit regularly on business but would not go there through choice. It’s not horrible,it’s not fantastic, just ordinary!

How the rich live.
I usually stay at the parking on the A 120 west bound where the burger van turns up at 7am or when east bound the one where the burger van is 24 hour:giggle: this i better as you don't get the " i don't like paying to wait" cabs & family in there

Stone House Farm a CL not too far from Bishop Stortford. Stayed there in early July and were very happy with the location

That was my first port of call as it nearest to the festival but it was full.

Yes, tried that one first as it was nearer where we needed to be but it was full.

I'm more than happy with BS. I need to be within 7/9 miles of the festival and this was the 2nd best (nearest being full). there's also a Golf club a little further out but BS suits our needs. It was more suprise that it was empty mid August. How can the owner make a living?

Any BritStops in the area?

I live in one of the surrounding villages, Stortford is OK, if totally unremarkable.

Used to live there, and now just outside n a village. That’s why I question why you’d want to stay there. Nearby there are some ok campsites. Depends how close you wish to be.

Probably better at your original site, the reviews look quite good, we have stayed at the golf club it was OK. 😁

Don't know if you can park in the car park at the venue 😉 might be worth asking. 😁 Bob.

Let me know if you want me to check-it out for you as I’m often there.
