Since April 1846 but have always camped.
Looking on ukcampsites it says it opens from May onwards, we were hoping to get there on the 4th May, however on Archies campsites it says it doesn't open until 5th May. Can anyone through any light on this or is there a decent Aires nearby?
Thanks,

We found our way to the Metz aire when we were in the area in 2014. We found it full and at the end of a busy car park. Luckily what I assume is the municipal campsite is literally next door to the aire so thats where we stayed.

Its a very pleasant site with good facilities and pleasant views of the Moselle which runs alongside.

Best of all its only a short walk into the city of Metz which is well worth visiting - cathedral, shops, opera house etc.

Sorry, can't help you with campsite opening dates, best to give them a ring or email.

Paul

Eight wonderful years!
We spent the night at Metz pronounced "Mess" (in case you didn't know!) on 8th Sept last year. We had intended using the Aire but it was full. The municipal site is adjacent and we arrived too late to be bothered to find anywhere else so stayed there - 22.2 euros (that may include dog charges) . The site was fine - right on the river so nice views/walks and the city is short walk away and very well worth seeing. The Cathedral is amazing - beautiful stained glass windows and clearly the organist doesn't suffer from vertigo!!! Don't know where you are heading after/before Metz - do visit Alsace if you can - stunning villages.

We are there now! Excellent site in terms of location - on river and 5 mins walk into town. There are two sanitary blocks. The larger one is shut and the smaller one leaves much to be desired. 20.60 per night.

Went to Metz last year and found a place at the Aire. Very convenient for visiting the city. We could have stayed overnight but decided to go a bit further south as our next destination was Nancy and found a very pleasant Aire in the village of Millary. It,s next to the river, free with services and very quiet. Here is the Camper Contact details.

Here is our blog post relating to Metz. Well worth a visit.

We stayed at the Millery Aire recently as the the Metz Aire was jammed and to be honest very un-inviting and the next one at Pont-a-Mousson was full. We managed to squeeze into the last space. Very quiet in the Evening and a good stroll along the river. Nothing in the village, but great for a route stop over.

If all else fails there'a free wooded aire a few miles north of Metz at Amneville, near the Snowhall and other leisure amenities, behind the Tourist Info office.
