Hi
Can anybody tell me the difference in a camping-car Park and an aire? New to this and don't want to make a mistake when we go to France in September. Thanks

Aires are normally run by local authority, and can vary in quality and price. all have basics of water and waste. In some this is free and others it is charged for. in some payment is collected manually each day, but more and more are becoming barrier entry.
Camping Car Parks are a company which operates aires, usually on behalf of local authorities but not always. They are always barrier entry. They are usually to a much higher standard than normal aires, and again usually have EHUs and wi-fi included in the price. Visit BROKEN LINK
for more information.

Is this another stop over app to purchase or download?
There is an app but any money you spend goes on your credit for staying in their aires. We have used them quite a bit and found them to be excellent

But they do have an app, which is free. And shows in real time how many spaces there are left.
The other difference is you can reserve a place, but to do so you have to purchase an additional Pack Privileges annually. We’ve never bothered with it, but we generally don’t go to France in peak holiday season.
There are also some campsites (mostly ex-municipals) which they label as Campings de Mon Villages - these generally run as a basic site with toilets etc in high season, and accept caravans and tents. In low season the “campsite“ facilities close and they are motorhome-only.

As emjaiuk says, Camping Car Park is a paid for Aire and the ones we used were very clean, tidy and well organised. We did pay for the Pack Privileges and made use of it. Although, with hindsight, we needn't have bothered with it, it did give us confidence in our first trip to France.

Looking at these later in November into December when we head for the Med.

I assume if you book you are guaranteed a pitch? I have just got the card (that arrived today) to last minute book from on the road, and swipe to open the barrier.

I saw some reviews where people were complaining that they could see empty pitches but the app said 0/20 (for example) and the barrier wouldn't let them in. I assume from that the empty pitches had been booked and the people were yet to turn up.

All advice welcome! ;)

At that time of year I would be too tight fisted to go on the paid for ones!

Yes that's right. We use CCP because you can see the number of pitches available in real time and book/pay up to 24 hours before on the ordinary card. We've also paid extra for the book on the day facility.
Good system. We paid 11 euros a few nights ago for an overnight stop by the River Meurse.
Do look at the reviews first either on the CCP or search for sites apps to check for problems. Local youths rampaging around near our site kept me awake until 02.45. No police anywhere near of course.

I wrote to CCP a few weeks ago asking if we might get them in the UK. This is their reply. Exciting! :

Thanks. I don't think that extortionate. ;)

They advertised for and recruited a UK rep last year. Hope they negotiate some sites soon.

It depends what you're used to paying. We used to go to France for a couple of weeks and spend less than 20 euros in total. If you were used to the majority of aires being free and were going for your full 90 days CCP every night would be getting on for a thousand euros more.

Yes, big changes as councils squeeze as much money as they can from their assets and stop staffing them, same at the toll booths, not a human operative in sight.
