One problem with my Rapido? you need to be a
Contortionist, with tiny hands and double jointed wrists, to get at the fuses under driver seat!.:(:(

How good is an OBD lock ?

It's a steel box with a lockable cover that completely surrounds the OBD socket and mounts to a structural part of the vehicle. On some vehicles they enclose the socket in situ, on Sevel vans the socket is relocated beneath the dashboard. As with everything, given time it could probably be broken into by drilling out the lock, but it's another layer of defence and in conjunction with a good alarm system time is the enemy of the thief.

Relocating the socket is easy, it just unclips from its bracket below the fuse box. I got another OBD socket from a scrap van and clipped that into the original bracket to add another layer of confusion.

The box is secured with a shear bolt, unlike the photo which is of a pre-production example:

There are other types such as electronic versions which disconnect the socket from the ECU using a prox fob. The only ones I wouldn't recommend are those that consist of an extension socket/dongle that plugs into the original socket, often secured by only a length of heat shrink wrap.

That’s the way layers of security , nothing will stop a determine thief but they wouldn’t want to spend too long drilling locks , cutting locks especially if in difficult places hard access etc . If you think about it you would never sleep !

I seem to recall that with some insurance policies if the vehicle stolen is two years old or less they automatically pay out for a brand new replacement . There just might be a positive ending although in the sad circumstances sentimental items can never be replaced.

I think the norm is 12 months

Mind you, having been in a total loss situation due to an accident in France in July, the next time someone tells me that they are insured so don't care, I will laught loudly in their face

Same thing happened to me in September 2018, woke up to find our Fiat based 2016 Swift Bolero stolen off the drive in the night.
Fortunately I paid extra for renewal of the Tracker so the police recovered it in within an hour of it being reported.
I have since had Vanbitz add bells & whistles for further security.
The thieves parked it in a side road & put diplomatic plates and were probably watching to see if it had a Tracker fitted.
Surprisingly there was no damage to the locks or the ignition so someone must have cloned the key.
It would be interesting where this lady has had it serviced or bought from.

It's a pity that the design of modern steering wheels prohibits the use of the old fashioned Krooklock steering lock.

Any CCTV in the area or at the nearest motorway junction? Hate to say this but there are a group of society that specialise in this sort of behaviour and think it's fare game and can change number plates in minutes.

I have a removable steering wheel such a good idea. It comes with a carry bag not so good if left in M/H, I take it with me whenever I park up and leave.
