Hi all.

For almost two years I’ve worked from home. It’s finally dawned on me, that realistically, from
Sunday night to Wednesday I could work anywhere with an Internet connection (4G).

So, I thought, what about a van converted to a mobile office. The idea being a van that is predominantly an office,

The dream is to head out wherever I fancy, pull over somewhere where there’s a nice view, do a day’s work and then head to a camp site to sleep. I’d mainly take advantage of the peace and quiet of out of season mid week.

Requirements
Standing desk space for just me
Sleeping space for just me
Don’t care what the vehicle looks like
Battery power for a laptop and two monitors for 8 hrs

The dream is to head out wherever I fancy, pull over somewhere where there’s a nice view, do a day’s work and then head to a camp site to sleep.

With my very limited knowledge, I’m thinking I’d need flooring, insulation, electrics and ventilation.

So, two questions-

1. Is a mad pipe dream?
2. What vans would be best candidates for conversion?

For that, you need a high top or pop up top. Thats it, the rest is easily sorted.

Make sure you have some solar power to top-up the batteries too……

Budget????

Fiat Ducato pug boxer and citeon relay are well liked vans.
VW crafter are liked too.
Transits rust as do sprinters.

High roof are best.

Some are wide enough enough to sleep across them. Ducato boxer relay, new transit and new crafter.

High roof transporters are rare but nice compact vans.
Also look at minibuses which are going cheap compared to vans for obvious reasons!!

Cheers James

I’ve been using our MH as an office for a while. It’s still parked on the drive but the 10yd morning commute allows me to switch between work & home life.

For the last few of months I've detached the EHC umbilicus and have been running off solar & lithium battery. I only have a laptop (no monitors) and I’m using the inverter to run the power supply but the battery level hasn’t dipped at all.

I am planning on heading away at some point to see if “I can work from anywhere”. I’ve not tried it yet, but I think getting a decent 4G data signal is going to be the limiting factor on where can I go. At the moment I’m tethering off my phone, but I may have to consider a MiFi and external antenna if I really want spectacular views.

Good luck with your idea.
Have a read of the enclosed, you may find it OTT, but it shows what can be done.
Check out YouTube as well, more than once I'v turned up some inspirational stuff on there.

I saw this on the BBC and thought you should see it:
