Hi all
We are in the middle of converting a double decker bus into a motor home and are looking for campsites that can take a 10M long vehicle
Any suggestions would be appreciated so I can start making a list and checking them out
Thanks in advance and thanks for letting us join the group

As well as length, you may need to bear in mind height issues - we've been to a (very) few campsites with an entry arch which we were wary about getting under, a double decker would have no chance.

Thanks it’s 14’6”
The plan is to make a list and go visit them in the car first

Some have pretty strict criteria as to what they let on and l would assume a good percentage wouldn’t allow a DDB on as well as length you have weight,height and the look of it no matter what you do to it and how good it will never be a Motorhome it will always be a DDB. A rethink might be in order.

If they are halfway through the conversion, rethinking the base vehicle won’t help.

I have found sites on Pitchup.com tend to be more relaxed, might be an idea searching them.

Oh and get some pictures on, would love to see it. :)

I think it will look great and be a real visitor attraction and talking point that many (independent) campsites will welcome. Obviously, the likes of CAMC would not entertain it but I'm sure lots of others would, given the necessary access etc.

At 10 metres long and 14'6" high - you might be better of posting over on the sister group - RVOC

You are getting into the larger American RV sizes, of which there are a lot of us over here - there is an RV sized camping ground list over on RVOC as well as access to The Big Pitch Guide, written by RV'ers for RV'ers

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
This might be of some use even though it isn't camp sites.

Just pre-Covid I borrowed a pal's beaten up people carrier to show 5 of my Aussie DIL's visiting family around my local places of interest.
After parking at the National Trust Devil's Dyke viewpoint a couple of us went to check the parking charge and noticed a police car arrive.
A copper got out, stuck his head in the window and asked the three left if they were travellers. "Yep" replied DIL's mother, "We'll be here for three weeks". I returned just in time to explain what she meant. How we all laughed.

Ignore them. For every negative post I bet there are dozens thinking 'what a great adventure'.

There is a guy in RVOC who is selling a Big pitch guide which has loads of campsites big enough for big rigs. It’s a really useful guide. (y) Worth joining RVOC for that sort of info.Good luck with the project and keep us posted on progress. (y)

Should look good when finished, our van is 3.5m high and a fair few sites we have been on only issues have been low trees..

Obviously your biggest issue will be trying to stop people jumping on when you stop near a kerb and asking for a single fare, kids will be in before you blink😂😂
And singing Cliff richards summer holiday. :LOL:

Trees and cables are more likely to trouble, as is access routes.

And to answer the enquiry;

Croyde, North Devon, Parkdean Holidays, Ruda, Croyde Burrows.

Very open field but all pitches are on grass, so not very good if it has been wet.

A lovely spot but avoid in peak summer and school holiday.

The main road to Croyde is a country road but the local bus service use a double decker bus.

Also North Devon;

Little Shelfin Farm

An open field with EHU and water on each pitch. Again grass but on very hard ground. Access to pitches is on a hard core track and some pitches have a gentle slope back towards the track. The only tricky spot maybe the turn into the field.

Not open all year.

With a rig that size it almost might be worth doing a reccy by car beforehand. I'm especially thinking of low bridges.

Wonder what the MPG will be on the bus?
Just thinking, because a reasonably long trip may require a refuel, and I bet you wont get that under many forecourt canopies.
Some thought and planning will be needed in this area also I would imagine.
Still a great project though 👍😊
