Greetings to you all.
Have just booked 3 trips to Caravan and Motorhome Club sites starting in July. Obviously this is hoping that they will be open. I expect this will be a busy summer for staycations. Itching to get out in the van!
Keep safe
Martin

Don't think that the bookings ever stopped. They announced that sites would close until 30th of June, so web site would only allow bookings from 1st of July. I think that there is also an opening date for campsites of the 4th of July floating around from government

I had an Easter booking auto cancelled (obv. reasons)
But even then I was able to relocate that campsite booking to a more optimistic late July AUGUST booking.

EDIT: I was less optimistic then I recalled :)

We've booked several sites in devon/Cornwall for the 1st 2 weeks in july.
Some c&mc some others.
Any that asked for deposits had a not that if they could not reopen it was full refund.

Bookings never closed, they just blocked anything being booked during the closed period. Not that it matters because the normal booking everything solid for a year and then late cancelling or not showing up is still happening and will only get worse.

I had an Easter booking cancelled by Aberfeldy caravan park and they are now ignoring my requests for refund or rebooking - after insisting on full payment when booking

Ignoring or just closed? Still annoying either way.

We have booked a couple of weeks in Northumberland and North Yorkshire in mid July. We aren't keen on booking too far ahead, and never book sites beyond the first one preferring to see what the weather does and how things unfold. On this occasion we have booked sites for the whole period because we are concerned sites will get very booked if the government gives the go ahead to holidays at camp sites while prohibiting hotels, rentals and foreign travel.

We plan to take advantage of the offer to give an extra 10% face value if you buy CAMC vouchers. It should mean three free nights.

Take care if you book the popular sites you'll be paying top wack for what might be a site with limited facilities. Might be better booking a known limited facilities site at a cheaper rate.

We;ve book 4 C&MC sites starting in July. Wew'd normally not book at all or until much nearer as we can be flexible with dates but thought everyone might be bookiing so we booked last month. Not bought the vouchers yet but will do.

I started a thread a couple of months ago on the subject of cancellations under the coronavirus threads having had similar problems myself. I put a link to some articles and info from the Competitions and Markets Authority. Their interpretation of the law is that if a service provider cannot provide that service, or the consumer cannot use that service, due to government legislation then whilst they can ask you to rebook or accept vouchers they must make a full refund available. Businesses who do not refund but have taken advantage of the measures put in place to protect them (loans, grants, furlough etc) are looked at in a particularly bad light.

I am currently in dispute with one provider who took full payment for 2 site bookings. They only offered to move the booking and have now ignored my e mails for a month. I will soon be starting a claim using the small claims court.

We have paid for Chesterfeast also the Peterborough show they have been moved to end July and August bank holiday week end want to camp out well before the Chesterfeast and move to different sites and bring in the Peterborough show and a bit more beyond about 6 to 8 weeks but hubby says to early to book the other sites yet

Why when sites do reopen is it assumed with limited facilities, I can go to Tesco or Costco and use their toilets that have remained open, or you thinking showering facilities would be closed.

We have bookings for 7 different sites from mid-july through to mid-September - most are for the weekend but we also have a Monday-Friday away with 2 nights at 2 different sites.

With no deposit required its not a problem if the campsites aren't open, we or they will cancel and that will be that. However if, as some people seem to think, campsites are heavily booked with people who have decided not to go into Europe then we have at least got a pitch for a few nights away from home.

One of my pet hates is the way the word “staycation” is now used. The term originated in N America, where very few people go abroad for their vacation and it meant staying at home and taking day trips out instead going away. Our wonderful journalists have hijacked the word and now use it in a pejorative way to describe UK holidays as a second rate, second choice holiday that you might be forced to take. I for one enjoy my UK holidays and thoroughly resent their depiction as a last resort choice. I enjoy foreign travel but when I travel the UK I do not believe it is any less of a holiday/vacation.

Hi Pausim. While l heartedly agree with you.
We in Britain seemed to be adopting many Americanisms.
When will people learn that very little of what gets adopted from that country is good.
It's an aggressive society and Britains appear to be following in their footsteps.
I Love Britain and travelled all over and still have not seen enough of it.
Roll on Freedom being restored (as best as it can) so the wheels get turning again.
Best Wishes to All

I have noticed some of our radio news people using that awful American word “incidences” instead of incidents which is the proper plural of incident. However I wouldn’t mind them using staycation if they used it as intended, not as a derogatory term to distinguish UK holidays from foreign holidays.

It suits us to do it like this for this year, we have no idea what's ahead and when/if any campsites will be open so I'd rather do it this way. Plus it, potentially, gives us something to look forward to.

We had 3 advance bookings for us and the van for this year, C&MC cancelled theirs, the private campsite also cancelled but I said to keep the deposit to use in the future as we'll definitely be going when we're allowed to, and we cancelled our ferry crossing to Spain at the end of this month

We have also made some bookings for July and August but we intend to use them all if we are allowed to.

Incidence (occurrence) and incident (significant event) have entirely different meanings.

Are you saying that they are using the wrong version of the singular word or are you disputing that ‘incidences’ is the plural of ‘incidence‘?

Ian

Fair point but I would say that they were using it wrongly. It was about a shooting in the USA and they referred to other incidences across the city.

We have decided to book out Tour from 27th July till 2nd September and hoping we get into all sites we are booking Hope it all turns out regards getting all our sites booked

We've booked Castleton CMC and Bay View in Bolton-le-Sands consecutively in July, so fingers crossed. We've also rescheduled a CC site at Devizes for September, hoping Wadsworth Brewery might be open by then. Reigniting the DREAM. SMUDGER55
