Hymer - 2016 Ducato base - 19K on the clock
Booked in for MOT / Service - is it time to change cambelt ? :cautious:
Getting opinions from friends - some say Yes due to age - others say No due to low mileage

What chassis is it on and what engine ?

2016 Fiat Ducato 130 multijet

We changed ours last year (2016-19000miles). It needed doing at some point so why not stick to the guidelines.
Tyres will also need to be replaced before their “limit” so it spreads the cost a little.

My Hymer on Ducato is also 2016 with 10k on the clock and I had cam belt and tyres (dated 2015) changed a couple of months back, too late if something goes bang to save a buck.

Yes. Mine is 2016 with with 20k on it and got it done a few months ago. Interestingly manual says brake fluid every 2 years irrespective of mileage. Got that done as well. Small money for both compared to not getting it done and to what benefit. Only after 30 to 40 years will it be an appreciable TCoO if you try skip a year or two and not worth the worry me thinks

Did mine last year, at 60k ish under 4 years. VW recomends 110k km or 5 years. When I compared the old to the new I had a shock how worn was the old original one. Do it ASAP, and get a good quality kit, don’t skimp on this.

Def change....... it's not cheap, however, the damage done would be many times more expensive. and would bring most grown men to tears.

There are many things you can skip . But cambelt changes aren't one of them unless you can afford to gamble with your engine.
That and tyres

I don’t think I dare ask this, and there may be price differences on vans, but what sort of price range are we looking at for a cambelt change?

the question is not do i change it ( age says yes) but, what do i change?
can i change the belt and tensioners and leave pump in place . no need to change pump because of miles/ fiat recommendations

Up to you but if the pump goes south (I’ve had it on a cambelt car) you have all the expense again for the sake of a water pump! Doesn’t make sense to me but hey ho it’s up to you👍
The water pumps failing doesn’t coincide with belt changes they can go anytime and rather quickly👍

Reason for changing the pump, is that it’s easier to access given what’s required to change the cambelt.

Belt and braces approach - seems to be recommend, also go for OEM parts in my view.
