Ive just been quoted £350 for a cam belt change. Is that a reasonable price for the job?, Cheap or expensive??, ive got short arms and deep pockets so the cost matters :giggle: engine is 2800 fiat ducato.

I'd say that's a decent price, a gates timing belt kit for a 2.8 is roughly £90. And cheaper than if a belt snaps?

I have a feeling it's advised to change the water pump and pulley's and tensioners, with that engine but I may be wrong, best check and see what they have quoted for doing. ? Bob.

On the 2.3 the water pump is REAL pricey, and according to Fiat they are made for life ( or 600,000 klm )

£500-£600 is the best price I can get around Chester, that's for the complete kit with water pump.
Q. is it worth changing the water pump if as you say Fiat say they are made for life. What have other funsters done?

Forgot to mention mine is 2.3. On an Fiat X290. Euro 5. 2015. 12,000 miles.

Not sure now, to just get quote for just cam belt and tensioners. Instead of water pump as well if it's not required

12000 miles in just 5 years. Wouldn’t be changing it yet.

I've been quoted £350 for a belt and £595 for belt + pump for a 2007 Maxus.
Unfortunately, the guy can't do it until 14th Sept.

I've tried 3 other garages who all say the van is too big for their facilities AND 7th Sept would be the earliest IF they could fit it in.

I would change the belt as it’s been fitted for 5 years, but I wouldn’t do the water pump as that would only deteriorate with use, which it hasn’t had.

Cam belt change is age related as well as mileage.
Fiat usually between 5 and 8 years depending on year and engine.
At 5 years I'd take the cheaper option...
New belt or engine rebuild, your choice.

Just paid £400 for just the belt on our A class Fiat 2.3. Saw the belt and pulley after 6 years and 26000 miles and they looked perfect. They checked the water pump which was fine and said it would have been another £250 if that had needed changing.

No connection what ever other than used and will use again, Give Kevin Handley a call at Boundary Garage Fulwood in Preston ( make it a mid week break and do Blackpool illuminations ) Motorhome parking water and waste from £5 a night) Kevin is an excellent mechanic and motorhomer and will give you a breakdown and estimate of the job with hours and price parts and if he goes over he stands the difference! And you get a courtesy car while van is in. Used him for over 10 years and he is now my fleet maintainer. There is a rider that if your M/Home is over 11 feet tall it won't get under the door !

Just had the timing belt.tensioners & water pump done on my 2010 2.3 ducato,48,000 miles & 10 years old.
Belt was changed at 5 years old before i bought the MH, Paid my fitter(friend) £150 labour & full gates belt kit i got at cost as i work in the trade. Must say,the old belt still looked perfect but wouldn't take the chance on leaving it another year or two.
