I have a Calor 6kg propane cylinder, which I have used for a few months. However, I’m new to all this and have no idea how much remains. So, I have weighed it at 13.8kg. The neck tag says Tare weight 18.12.
Does this mean I’ve used 4.3 kg of gas with 1.7 kg remaining?

Hope a correct answer will appear as I get confused too. From what I understand the Tare weight is in Ibs and ozs.

Yes, that makes sense to me.

I know 1 litre of propane weighs 0.51kg, which is about 1 lb.

Every time I fill my 21 litre tank I wonder at what point it will/should shut off. It only fills to 80% so I stand there trying to do mental arithmatic while wondering if the auto shut off has failed and I am about to be consumed in a ball of fire. I really must mark the side of the tank. Be easier if the pump displayed litres instead of kg.

OK that’s good to know. So that’s 8.5kg unladen, i.e. when it’s empty, and 14.5kg with the full 6kg of gas.
Mine now weighs 13.8kg, indicating 5.3kg remaining.
That’s a great answer and suggests I’ve used hardly any.

Thanks everyone. Think I’m sorted and it turns out I’m clearly a gas skinflint. Best not tell the wife, else she’ll want the heating on!

tare is empty weight ,
gross in full weight
nett is sum of one from other .
for those who were not sure (y)

I find that the stated tare weight on a Calor cylinder is not that accurate. The full capacity of 6Kg is though, so I weigh the full tank when I put it into service and write that figure onto the bottle with a marker pen. It's then relatively easy to calculate how much I have left.
