In my quest to find our real-world payload requirements. I'm looking at gas. Many makers include 1 x 11kg bottle of gas within MIRO. I have never camped with just one bottle of gas, so I'm looking to see how many of us have a second bottle. If most of us do, then it would be reasonable to add it to our real-world payload.

use a cepsa bottle as backup while in uk . and when away abroad use a flogas 19kg as back up.
if going morocco remove the flogas and replace it with a moroccan bottle .
always try to leave morocco with a full bottle and leave spain with a full bottle.
mind also have a camping gas bottle just incase i want to cook anything if away on the m,bike . single burner ideal.

Swapped out two 6kg Calor for two Alugas 11kg LPG . I understand (reading blurb) the Moho was designed for two Alugas (Knaus A class)

When I was using exchange bottles I had 2. Now I have a refillable system I am happy with a single bottle. I chose a single 14kg Alugas one because by my calculation it was the optimum point on the weight v amount of lpg scale.

1 Calor 13 kg propane and 1 French 13kg propane covers all eventualitys for us.

We started off with one back in 2006 I think, with a Calor along side, this was because we were going abroad for longer (3 weeks) and didn't want to have issues with getting gas as it ran the hob/oven, fridge and heating/water.

When we changed to a Chausson it only had room for 1 bottle so it was good job we had the refillable!

When we had the Autocruise Accent PVC I managed to get our 11kg into the gas locker with some 'adjustment' ... ahem ... so just had that as by then we knew that a single one was sufficient for our needs. When we went to a Globecar FamilyScout it had a massive gas locker so the 11kg went in and as I'd picked up a new 6kg at a show for £50 I used that too as we were going away for up to 60 days at a time and not always in the summer. Then I got hold of a nearly new 11kg so swapped the 6kg for that so that meant 2 x 11kg. Now we have a Globecar Campscout the fridge is electric only so although we don't need the gas for that as we're now going away for up to 3 months at a time over winter having the second refillable means we won't run out if we stop somewhere for a few days in cold weather (like up a mountain in sub-zero temperatures!).

I have considered removing the 2nd bottle but as we don't need the storage space or payload there's no need and you can bet if I do the first one will decide to have a hissy fit (not literally!) and we won't have any gas!

I ticked the 'between 5-8kg' option. I have an 11kg Gasit. My Cheyenne won't take 2 x 11kg bottles and I actually have a Calor 3.9kg propane as a backup as I already had one. Couldn't find a store who'd swap my Calor 7kg butane for the 6kg propane, which I'd have preferred. Having said that, I've not come near using the backup bottle yet.

I have an 11kg gas-it in the locker which does us fine.longest we've been away for is 2weeks in the summer & used next to none (y)

I have 2 x 11kg on my Kontiki and having the same on my new van, I like the fact that you can forget about gas by filling as and when without waiting for an expensive bottle to be empty, also not worry about hulking cylinders about as my wife keeps moaning :) So in answer your question I guess people if spending out may go for twin rather than single, we will soon find out in the replies;)

I have 2 x 14kg Alugas, running without a 2nd bottle is as mad as running without a spare wheel, it will always let you down at the most inconvenient place/time.

Since 2007 until we changed motorhomes 18months ago we had 2 x 11kg gaslow and then changed to gas it alugas, but let one go with the old motorhome, so have one gas it and a Spanish Cepsa propano, but unlike Calor an exchange is €11.30.:doh: Bob.

One 11Kg Gaslow refillable. Have been away for up to 2 months, never run out or been unable to fill up.
We're about 50/50 on and off hook up.

I’ve got 2x 11kg gaslow.

2 x 11kg Gaslow for us. Could probably get away with just one but as we've paid for 2 we just carry on with the two, never needed to go on to the 2nd bottle.

2 x 6kg Gasit, room for 2 x 11's but we are happy with what we have. We run our Spanish bottle through the filler point during the winter in Beni.
Just fitted 2 Mopeka sensors so it will be easier to monitor the levels.
Cheers
Ed

2 X 11kg run + 1 Spanish propane when in Beni

1x 14kg
1x 11kg
Alugas for us, I would have got 2x14 but I couldn’t fit two in cos of the stepped locker?

I expect a 11kg Alugas will last us about 10-12 days in the summer off grid. Fridge, hot water, and cooking. Obviously can use a lot more in the winter if heating on.
Perhaps we just use more than some folk, but some usage figures seem a bit optimistic.

2 × 11k Gaslow
Started with one bottle in Britain and mainly on electric - went almost a year before a fill-up.
Then went to Germany for a week in March staying on stellplatz and almost ran out!
Bought a 2nd bottle pretty blinking quick.

Times are changing! Gas-It now sell an accurate wireless level sensor. Mine appears to be accurate to 1 or 2%. This very recent improvement may make others think about the need for 2 bottles. I certainly don't see the need when I always know exactly how much gas I have left.

Sometimes we stay in one place for a week or more so a single 11kg bottle would be pushing it. If our locker would take the 14kg I would probably still go for two. Currently have been here for 10 days and are on our second bottle, though there were a few days use before we got here. Moving on today so hopefully will refill, if somewheres open in rural Spain on a Sunday.

I carry 2 x 6Kg Calor Propane bottles. 1 permanently connected to MH, 2nd I have fitted with quick release 8mm Cadac connector with regulator gauge for connecting to BBQ so we can move BBQ about to follow the sun. Have had these bottles for nearly 3 years now and still plenty of gas in. Everyone to their own, but I dont really see the point in putting in expensive alternative gas sytems. If going for a longer trip, have a 3rd spare full bottle at home, stick it in for your trip and keep the partially used bottle stored for your next shorter trip. Certainly, I dont regularly use fridge on gas, possibly thats why peops use more gas than us.
1 cost cutting tip I would suggest is what I have done several times, is next time at recycling centre check the gas bottles that get dumped. I have 3 x 6Kg spare in my shed all almost full that people have just dumped! and given a couple away to some other folks. Local blokes at the centre are pretty good and dont mind you taking a bottle if one is there. Best form of recycling.

We have a gas locker for 2 x 13kg bottles, which is what I used when we first bought the van. Now it has 2 x 11kg Gasit bottles with Mopeka sensors attached. This keeps us going for at least a couple of weeks in the depths of winter.
We don’t use campsites outside the UK.
i couldn’t imagine just having one bottle.
We also take a Coleman dual fuel stove and a Kelley Kettle.
No excuse for not being able to make a cuppa!

Likewise, we carry 2 X 6kgs cylinders, and usually travel to Spain for about 6 weeks, twice a year. (Spring and Autumn, I appreciate mid Winter would be different). We have never yet made use of the second cylinder. Also have 3 cylinders so always set off with 2 full cylinders

In their wisdom Hymer chose to build a gas cupboard in our van that only fits 2 x 6kg bottles so that’s what we’ve got.

Nice 1 thanks.. I thought it was me missing the point about some of the variations on Gas systems but what I have works for us, simple, cheap, easily obtainable and reliable.
