I have 2x 6.5kg blue bottles in my old motorhome, anything bigger would not fit. What do you guys advise, one is empty, the other almost empty.

That’s an odd size but I’ve not been around much

Thought it was 7kg blue butane or 6kg red propane for Calor.

If you've got empty Calor bottles exchanging them for full ones is easy - unless there’s much different in the last 6 months.

Is your query more about a refillable alternative?

If you want to go away in the cooler months, change to reds (Propane) but you will need new pigtails.
If you use mainly gas when out and about rather than hook up, then look at installing refillables with an external filler point. Various systems available. We have GasIT and are pleased with it it. Gaslow are the better know alternative. There is also a lightweight refillable system that I can't recall the name at the moment, but someone will be along shortly to fill that gap in my grey cells! ;)

Having an external filler means you can drive up to an Autogas pump, connect up and fill. Without the filler, you have to open the gas cupboard which most garages do not allow and will not start the pump.

Whatever you do, make sure it's installed safely.

Sorry guys, I meant 4.5kg butane [ blue bottles ] I have a 1996 Elddis Eclipse motorhome, and the bottles fit in a tiny cupboard at the back, only reachable from outside with the gas locker door, no room for bigger bottles. My excuse is I am a 75 year old fool. The MH does not warrant a permanent fixture, and cost is prohibitive when on a state pension only.

How wide is the door to your gas locker and what size WxDxH are the internal dimensions of said locker.

35cms high, 25cms wide, 60cms deep, just enough room for two 4.5kg bottles.
Your first post says 6.5kg so guess you mistyped there. On here somewhere is a thread with alink from a boating forum stating Calor have extended the deadline but they will eventually phase them out.

Any chance of squeezing a 5 kg Safefill refillable bottle in?

Height: 39.6 cm Diameter: 31 cm

I think from here on with calor withdrawing all the small cylinders, the small safefill or and underslung fixed tank will be the options open to most small camper vans. Without major alterations to an interior cupboard, you won't fit a larger cylinder. I would like to advise here, that using an internal cupboard would mean making it airtight, possibly metal lined and large drop out vents through the floor. Leaking LPG in the living area has caused many tragic accidents. Worse on boats of course and a few each year have gone up in flames. This is why they usually get put in external lockers on motorhomes

Reading Post 5 from the OP it would appear that his van has an exterior door and, looking at the dimesions he gives, the only bottles
that will fit his locker are the small ones that Gaslow make.
Willing to be contradicted.

I noted the small Safefill is marginally taller than the door dimensions provided, but wondered if there was any additional height available inside the cupboard?

But agree, the 2.7 kg Gaslow would definitely fit. (y)

Calor have reversed some of the small bottle cutbacks: #118
Still easier to exchange than start from scratch.
