i say get off the ferry keep the sea on your right and just keep slowly going around . dont need a sadnav ,in fact hardly need a map. there are loads of places to stay .certainly as you get to brittany there are more aires per mile than anywhere in france .
just hug the coast . all the way round you have months to do it . by the time you have done france spain portugal spain when you get back to france you will be sorted .
avoid toll rds ,avoid m,ways . avoid duall carriageways, just use smaller local roads its the way to travel. there is no rush.
but visit lots of tourist offices you can very often get good maps etc free off them .
